Eva:
I appreciate your having opinions, however, I don't appreciate the incredibly judgmental way those opinions come across as truths.
First, CNIA is only as dysfunctional as the neighborhood allows it to be. There are all kinds of people in the Central Neighborhood and many of those people types get involved in neighborhood politics. Some Republicans that go to DFL functions, some neighbors that criticize the neighborhood organization but don't realize that their behavior is part of the neighborhood fabric, which sometimes is a bit tattered and worn and in need of repair.
The reason Brian Herron has always had my loyalty is because not only is he human, but he admits it publicly. He is consistently working with his ward as much as humanly possible, and is willing to listen to all sides before developing an opinion based on consensus of the neighborhood and sometimes the bigger picture which involves the whole city. Many folks that have the behavior of consistently listening tend to get accused of doing or implying things that they have not said -- particularly by those that the of listening is foreign. Those folks that are not used to listening seem to form opinions based on their assumptions and present those opinions as fact.
Brian Herron, as with any human being I know, including you Eva, has made mistakes. But one mistake Brian does not make is telling lies. Brian's integrity is above reproach, which is something I would really like to see more folks not only in City Council but in Neighborhood politics work to reach.
Those folks that give their time in the neighborhood organizations are volunteering long hours. It is amazing to me that those that volunteer the most time get the most criticism from those that "don't have time" do so the same. Although I may not agree with everything CNIA is doing, I truly respect those folks that are giving up much of their personal time to see the neighborhood move forward.
I believe if folks want to see their neighborhoods change in a positive way, rather than criticize everything that the neighborhood volunteers do, one might want to get involved and work in a positive manner to see things change for the greater good of the neighborhood.

I talked with a few folks who had been to the last Dysfunctional Family
Foodfight known as a CNIA meeting last September at the 9th Ward
convention. A Park Av Methodist Church member at the convention made the
point that the Mayor was asked to come to this, and was missing in action
here (another instance of the "invisible mayor")..... This same delegate
mentioned that Brian Herron seems to tell different groups of people
different things. I remember Brian telling me in a phone conversation that
he was opposed to City funding for pro-sports stadium. I found out later
in the paper, that Herron's position on this was different than he had told
me. I don't appreciate being lied to. Now maybe Herron didn't actually
lie in the same way that Clinton didn't lie because of some ambiguity in
the meaning of the word "is"... but at minimum, Herron mislead me when I
called him to ask him what position he was planning to take on the issue.
Anyway, I will go to this Family Festival, and I would also be interested
in knowing where all 8th ward council candidates stand on this reallocating
$120 K (or thereabouts) of NRP funds into the CNIA general fund....
