While one poster has said, roughly, that anonymous activism/commentary is a "right" in our society, and I agree that there are situations that warrant it, I can't see how a situation such as wishing to express that bicycle rides "suck" would be one of those where it is warranted.
man, you can tell us if something "sucked". But you went further than that, and made personal attacks. That's easier with anonymity, and therein lies the problem: where the "right" to anonymity is abused. Now you don't have to look someone in the eye and justify your (incorrect) position regarding our faithful and capable volunteer(s). Pretty convenient. For this reason, I am in favour of totally ignoring the entire content of your letter, since it is no longer clear whether this is a legitimate complaint or merely a concocted story with which to eventually deliver some personal message of displeasure with someone else. Credibility is diminished to nil. How to make rides suck less? Well, I'm not feeling terribly helpful toward you today, so I'll only say, "your way" wasn't particularly useful. So some rides suck. Some don't. You can tell us if they did, or didn't. No big deal. Help us fix it. But making it personal?....Anonymously no less? Well, it seems a pretty one-sided affair, no? If you're going to make it personal, have the gumption to allow others the opportunity to approach YOU directly on the issue. THAT'S why you hide behind the pseudonym, to avoid just such a discussion, where you'll probably have to admit your mistake, or at least apologize to the harmed party. Once that's done, MAYBE the rest of your complaint can be taken seriously. So, some rides suck. Hey, I remember one! "Return trip RLCT 2000". Huh, everybody? Am I right? Yeah! Hey everybody: Paul Smeulders said the ride home from Kingston 2000 SUCKED. Paul Datars pulled my sorry ass all the way home. I am indebted to him, and grateful, and have a fond memory of completing the ride, however assisted I was. But despite his unselfishness, how much he gave up to help me finish (he could have gone faster), I'm sure Paul still understands if I STILL say "IT STILL SUCKED!!!" (but thanks, it sucked less than it WOULD have).
