I agree about the debugger plug-in. If the people at Metrowerks are being
pulled in too many directions to fix the Palm specific problems, bringing
those into 3COM/Palm, or open sourcing them is a good idea, and we
suggested this at the Palm Source developer's conference in the FeedBack
forum although noone at Metrowerks seem to like the idea much.

However, CodeWarrior is a supported product written by some great
experienced compiler programmers. The LAST THING I WANT is for some sleep
deprived inexperienced college student with no real investment in the
code other than ego to screw it up in the middle of the night. Have you
looked at the Netscape mess? I hate to even call it source code. Too
many cooks spoil the broth.

I like having supported commercial software. If people can earn money
making good software, then there will be good software. If everything
gets given away for free, then you have no reason for smart people to
bother to make software. They'll become lawyers and basketball players
instead.

My company is supposed to be writing code for our products, and even time
spent debugging the Emulator takes away from that, although in the case
of the Emulator I'm willing to do it because we almost always benefit
from it immediately. But 3COM/Palm then gets our time for free...and our
products are delayed...such a deal!

What I really want is for Metrowerks/Palm to HIRE another really terrific
person who is a _dedicated_ resource for fixing bugs for CodeWarrior for
Palm OS. I would even PAY MORE for CodeWarrior for Palm OS to get it!

Best wishes,
