As far as I know, the consequences are only cosmetic, and only likely to
happen under very rare circumstances. The worst thing is that stale bits
will be left on the screen, which could look pretty ugly.
The new Poser and the new 3.5 OS 'debug' ROMs are designed to more
frequently trigger those rare circumstances, so that you can write better
apps. (In particular, the refresh problem is more likely on color devices
because it takes more memory to save the bits under a popup window, and so
it's more likely that the bits will not be saved!)
