The full width is not a *requirement*. It's a design guideline. PalmOS apps look nice
and are easy to use because they always look the
same. Interface is never different. The design guidelines give you a path to follow if
you want to give this good look and feel to
your application.
PalmOS won't restrict you if you want to create something different, though. I think
it's the correct approach. You can complain about
not being able to turn off this check on Poser, so you could test non-standard
applications...
