Hi everyone, I just got a PowerMac 8500 the other day. I installed OS 9 on it and it's running great. However, I'm having trouble accessing the internet. I have a small network set up to share the cable modem; I recently got a Linksys wireless router (also has 10BaseT ports for regular "wired" connections), which connects my iBook, my husband's PC, my IIci, and my Performa 631CD to the internet. However, so far no luck with the 8500. The TCP/IP settings are all correct. The cable is good - I just tested it with my iBook and it works fine.
When I plug the cable from the router into the 8500's ethernet port, I do get a link light - but only a link light. There are three lights on the router for each port - link/act, full/col, and 100. All three are lit up for the other computers, but only the first one is lit up for the 8500. I also tried connecting my iBook and the 8500 via a crossover cable and turning on file sharing. They could not see each other. I would think that since I do get a link light, the ethernet port on the 8500 must be good? The only other thing I can think of is that maybe it's somehow confused because there is also an AAUI ethernet port? (I don't have a transceiver to test with, unfortunately.) I've never heard of anything like that, though. Ideas?
