Ah, try disconnecting the ethernet cable and then booting the computer. My guess is that the ethernet settings will be identical, indicating the Mac Ethernet port is NOT working. FWIW, my working OS 9.1 install on my 9600 includes the following: Apple Enet Apple Enet DLPI Support EnetShimLib If those file are present, I'd start to suspect a hardware problem. I hate to go straight there, but it sounds like you have the software/setup bases covered. I don't think trying an AAUI adapter would be worth it, because it uses the same hardware as the built-in ethernet port.
