Yes, the ethernet extension is there. Both Appletalk and TCP/IP are set to
ethernet.

Would love to, if I could get online.

I tested it with 8.0 (the OS that was on it when I got it), 8.5, and 8.6. No
luck with any of them. I think I have a copy of the Network Install Disk
somewhere, so I can try that later.

Sorry, should have been more specific. The IIci and Performa were not
plugged in last night. So it was indeed just the iBook and PC.

No errors when I switched AppleTalk to ethernet. (It was originally set to
the printer port, but switching it was one of the first things I did.) I am
going to reconnect the IIci and Performa to the network and see if I can see
them in the Chooser, but I must admit I'm not optimistic after the
experience with the crossover cable.

Yes, I have tried it both ways.

Also, TCP/IP is not set to "Load Only When Needed."

One thing I noticed when I set it to DHCP is that it's getting the wrong
subnet - 255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0 - and a 169 IP address
(instead of 192). Which explains things, although I don't know WHY it's
happening or how to fix it.

Thanks,
