Sometimes I wish I was not so adamant about cleaning out old email and emptying the trash. I had a long standing battle with NS about four months ago. Long story short, it was strongly advised not to have Pre-NS v6.x on the same machine as Post-NS v6.x because they would use the same Preference folders in the system folder; and there was just enough difference in file usage (read from/write to) that would cause problems with Post-NS v6.x. So do as you may, I do know that when I cleared out anything to do with Pre-NS v6.x the majority of the problems with NS went also...
