Here's a datapoint: I have Canon S520 color printers connected to two PM
4400's, each with a different flavor of USB PCI card, and have had no
problems whatsoever. I don't think the S520's are made anymore, but may
still be available. I bought mine from PCUniverse. I think they are great
printers.

So, there IS hope out there.

My Epson Stylus 777 inkjet color printer is hooked up to my legacy PM 9600 via a Tempo Trio card. I've had no problems whatsoever. I had it hooked up to a belkin 2-port usb card earlier and that worked fine as well.
