Bruce was of the opinion;

People too damn cheap to buy a new mac (and it's not every 3-4 years!) will go buy a Wintel and buy all new software (and all new troubles to go with it)

Riiiiiigggghhhht!.

There is no 3-4 year old machine that is not OS X capable.

The cutoff for OS X capability is the 9600 which was discontinued in 1998, 6 years ago. Moreover they run OS X perfectly fine, with those upgrades you're talking about and some hacking, and iTMS runs perfectly happy on them as well.

Apple simply cannot afford to coddle the cheapskates and stay in business.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Well Bruce that's quite a strong soapbox there.. And for 10 years I have hated Windblowspain too. But ironically may wind up using it and all of it's crap problems to boot !

The story goes thusly; Last fall I went to a video convention. Professionals from the region meeting in Pittsburgh. I went to the Premiere Pro demo.
What a wonderful app ! The package is very integrated. Special effects and processing of quality on the fly from within the app ! Wow !
This was just after I became a registered Premiere user on the Mac. Surprise ! No Premiere Pro for Mac ! What ? No Apple -Adobe
Cooperation ! Ungodly !

Then in March went to a Video Production seminar. All Day event in Cleveland. 70 professionals and wannabes. Only 3 of us were MacHeads !

The route home on my 90 mile ride went right by my favorite store, MicroCenter. I went to the Apple section. There were three salesman.
And here is where you might think I am making up the story. I asked to run Final Cut Pro on a G5 base machine. None of the three salesmen knew how ! They let me play with it but it was not configures and there weren't any video files anyway. So I coulldn't get an idea of how it might compare.
I began to try iMovie, nice little app but not much there. As I delved into it a couple came in . They had Premiere 6.5 and wanted to upgrade to Pro.
Crestfallen they asked about FCP.
Again the salesmen could not demonstrate FCP and either way, FCP or Premiere he missed a $ 1000.00 sale. Another couple came in wanting to buy a new Mac with Premiere ! The same story. In less than an hour three potential sales had been discouraged.

Do I blame Apple for this ? Yes ! They are responsible for seeing to it that their sellers know the ropes. Both hardware or software.
No Premiere ? I guess it's too big a rival to FCP. I guess Avid and Cannopus are not seen in the same light.

Frugal isn't the same as cheap. But no, we just aren't pulling our load. Let's trash our Legacy Macs and Fork over for an eMac.

In north east Ohio Mac stores are few and far between. Everyone here either has a phone or online ordered Dell and they ask me if Apple
is still in business ! Do you think I go out of my way as an ambassador of goodwill for Apple given the way they treat establish Legacy Mac users ?

The OS is better ? If that sold computers then Apple would have always been number one in sales right ?

Yes, please Apple don't coddle the cheapskates by any means. You're doing so well. Don't make it pleasant to be a Mac user, How can we Mac users
feel so superior if you make it easy for just anyone to get the benefits of capabilities PC users take for granted on machines well past their
prime use date? Oh that would be bad business.
