Well Bruce that's quite a strong soapbox there.. And for 10 years I have hated Windblowspain too. But ironically may wind up using it and all of it's crap problems to boot !
The story goes thusly; Last fall I went to a video convention. Professionals from the region meeting in Pittsburgh. I went to the Premiere Pro demo.
What a wonderful app ! The package is very integrated. Special effects and processing of quality on the fly from within the app ! Wow !
This was just after I became a registered Premiere user on the Mac. Surprise ! No Premiere Pro for Mac ! What ? No Apple -Adobe
Cooperation ! Ungodly !
Hmmm...maybe it's because Premiere got blown out of the water by Final Cut Pro, and cut off at the knees by FCP Express.
(btw, this is the experience of most of the video pros I know. Most of them are gaga over Apple's products in this arena.)
And finally, if you're getting into video editing, what the heck are you using such old, slow systems as a PCI mac running OS 9 for anyway???
Do I blame Apple for this ? Yes ! They are responsible for seeing to it that their sellers know the ropes. Both hardware or software.
Was this an Apple Store? No. Then it's MICROCENTER'S job to train their salesmen.
This is why Apple has opened Apple Stores, in fact, over their frustration with the poor training and support from the third party stores like Microcenter, CompUSA and Best Buy.
No Premiere ? I guess it's too big a rival to FCP. I guess Avid and Cannopus are not seen in the same light.
I wouldn't be surprised. Premiere has never positioned itself to compete with Avid, but Avid is sure taking FCP seriously...they've spent a LOT of money competing with it, and Avid is the 800 lb gorilla of the industry...or they were until FCP appeared.
In north east Ohio Mac stores are few and far between. Everyone here either has a phone or online ordered Dell and they ask me if Apple
is still in business ! Do you think I go out of my way as an ambassador of goodwill for Apple given the way they treat establish Legacy Mac users ?
Dear lord have you ever tried to get parts for a 7 *month* old Dell, let alone a 7 YEAR old one??? We have folks in the University who have bought 5 of the same model and specification Dell over a years time and gotten 5 *different* systems. Different motherboard, memory, drives, etc.
Yes, please Apple don't coddle the cheapskates by any means. You're doing so well. Don't make it pleasant to be a Mac user, How can we Mac users
feel so superior if you make it easy for just anyone to get the benefits of capabilities PC users take for granted on machines well past their
prime use date? Oh that would be bad business.
Yes. It *is* bad business when your business is selling new computers.
Just step back and look at the circles you're arguing in.
"PC users buy new systems every 2-3 years, but Macs can last a lot longer, so Apple should continue to support these old systems (at a cost to new development, Apple's long standing strongest point.) because PC users can use new stuff on their old systems...that they replaced 2-3 years ago..."
PC's well past their prime use date are horridly obsolete.
