There are moral arguments as to why Apple should try to support old macs.
These have their strengths and limitations. And then there are business
arguments. A busines argument is no good if it is too general or vague or
unclear or not deliniated sharply from a moral argument. To say that Apple
are shortsighted about this or that needs some hard figures (numbers,
stats). Prima facie, Apple surely have the best figures, it is in their
interest to. If anyone wants to put a business argument, go ahead, but it is
no use unless you put up the stats. Moral arguments are different, indeed a
moral argument can easily go "Though it will actually lose us money, we
should..." I am not saying that moral arguments cannot be good ones (in
fact, I am not sure that the world and its commercial fruits would not be a
better place if it was more moral and undoubtedly less well endowed
technologically...)
