Many times when you reinstall an OS you have to reinstall
drivers and some software as well. Just depends on the
specific setup.

You're not trying to reformat while IN Windows are you? I hope
not. I never had any problems reformatting. I just boot off
the XP CD and tell it what to do (reformat C: partition). If
that doesn't work, boot from the HD's CD and let it reformat
the partition.

Our friendly PCWorks team was very kind trying to help me
figure out about
my dialup, but the bottom line was that I couldn't fix it. In
my
frustration, I decided to re-install Windows.

Windows XP won't let you do that. I re-installed a copy of
Windows on top of
the old one, in order to fix damaged files, and I did a massive
Windows
Update.

My dialup connection was just as bad as before, but the
re-installation did
remove my sound, USB, and graphics drivers. The system refused
to recognize
the drivers on my motherboard CD. That CD had worked in the
past.

I tried to format Drive C: (I have several NTFS partitions;
Windows is on
Drive C:)

However, Windows won't let me format a drive with system files.

I tried to use Format in the Recovery Console. However, it
asked for my
password. I don't have a password. After trying three
passwords, it
restarted the computer.

How can I bypass the password question in Recovery Console and
format Drive
C:?
