David, do you have set DNS servers in your networking settings, or does your server choose from it's own list?

Perhaps your ISP has changed the DNS servers, mine does this from time to time without telling subscribers and it gets messy.

Have you removed the TCP/IP protocol, then reinstalled it? This sometimes helps to restore the protocols to proper status.

I didn't visit my computer for a day, and my original message moved on to a
different thread. I'd like to return to my question. To avoid confusion,
I've changed the Subject: line on my own thread.

I have a regular 56K dial-up modem, not DSL. Speeds range from around 34K to
around 46K. It's used mostly for e-mail, so I am not bothered by the
relatively slow connection speed.

My original message is listed at the bottom of this query and response. One
more note that I should add: When the dialer stops working (although I am
still on-line), the modem itself seems to continue doing its job. However, a
double click on the double-computer icon on the system tray by the clock, or
on the dialup shortcut on the desktop, results in a very brief flash of the
usual dial-up dialogue box. It has no effect. Rebooting seems to work -
until the next time.

Please re-read my own message below when responding, so that my own issue
will not be confused with other recent issues on PCWorks.

Thank you for your help.

David Grossman
