I'm sure that many never experience problems. However, having this failure on 75% of 
my lenses and having heard other suffer the same; not to mention having seen this 
malfunction in brochure pictures of Pentax lenses, I can certainly say its a common 
problem. As Alan pointed out, its an idiotic patent.
It has nothing to with temperature. The lenses are defective brand new, right out of 
the box.
