I have not had any quality control problems with any Pentax equipment but do sometimes 
wonder about final inspection of some products before an item is packaged for 
shipping.  I service medical equipment and have seen out of box failures that had zero 
chance of working at time of packaging and models from major manufacturers with 
greater than 25% failure rate within 1
year of use.
