No. not much ado about nothing. This driver doesn't work with PSCS4 and 10.6. You can find citations all over the web regarding this problem, and both Apple and Epson confirmed it. It's nice that it works with Lightroom,
but that doesn't help me.

However, one of the techs I spoke to told me that CS4 runs only in 64-bit mode, and he thought that was the root of the problem.

I don't have PSCS4 here at home, but LR and CS4 both use *exactly* the
same features and dialogs of the driver. You should be able run CS4 in
32bit mode, just go to the Get Info dialog and set it to use 32 bit.

Someone else offered that advice, but the "Get Info" box for CS4 doesn't offer a 32-bit option. At least not as far as I can tell. It does offer a Rosetta option, and I tried that to no avail. Here's a screen shot of the get info box:

I did try the Epson driver with other software, including Word and Safari, and it worked. Of course neither of those programs offer the advanced printing options of PS or Lightroom.

But if that is the case, then the problem isn't with the Epson v6.57
driver ... it is with CS4. CS4 and LR2 also have other weirdnesses
when running in 64 bit on Snow Leopard, it wouldn't surprise me.

The "update" on the Epson site is older than the 6.57 driver release.
Don't use it, it will confuse things.
