Don't you think that it's up to Adobe to test Photoshop CS4 for operating system and print driver compatibility? If Adobe finds problems, they should work out whatever is causing the problems ... which might or might not be anything to do with the Epson driver ... and discuss it with the providers of that bit.
Given the fact that the behavior is specific to Photoshop CS4 (I've now tested CS2 and CS3, don't have CS4 available to me), and the Epson driver works flawlessly with Lightroom, Pixelmator, Aperture, and all the other software I use to print anything, this clearly put the problem squarely on Adobe and Photoshop CS4. Blaming the printer manufacturer and print driver as the responsible party here with no basis in logic is what seems completely ridiculous to me.
