I'm sure it would sound odd.  And if Indian companies with Indian
customers hired Americans to speak in a fake Indian accent as customer
service reps, you would be justified in complaining about it.

The fake American accent (usually some sort of Texas drawl) affected
by certain call center employees is far more distracting than an
Indian person speaking in their normal voice.  It's the vocal
equivalent of the "Uncanny Valley."
