Frederik, So, can we say that the non-life to life transition is both continuous and non-continuous, depending on what aspect of the transition you are prescinding, just like the cup and the doughnut are both continuous (as members of the same topological group) and discontinuous (as members of two entirely different groups -- undigestable vs. digestible) ?
