Gradual and Flexible Retirement Systems" (Lanzarote, 4 and 5 February 2002) Organised by the Spanish Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs with the collaboration of the European Commission CRISIS-MID EAST/EU: Piqu� Leaves Middle East after Tour Marked by Violence Beirut, Jan 18 (EFE) � Josep Piqu�, the President of the EU Council of Ministers and Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs left today the Middle East after a five-day tour marked by the resurging violence after the last Palestinian attacks and the Israeli reprisals. Final conclusions document of the seminar �Practical aspects of the creation of a European enforcement order� Following a two-day meeting in Madrid to examine the need for a civil-law equivalent of the Euro-warrant, jurists, magistrates and representatives of various State and Community institutions have concluded that the EU Spanish Presidency�s initiative of pushing for the creation of a European Enforcement Order (EEO) �is welcome because it will serve to make court rulings more effective.� They emphasised that the national legislation [of the Member States] should present no obstacles to the project, which would simplify existing procedures. Nonetheless, they advised the Fifteen that the greatest possible legal precision be applied in drawing up the procedure to be followed. Ministers agree on need for closer integration of economic and employment policies Meeting in Burgos, the EU�s Employment and Social Policy Ministers have today focused their discussions on the European Employment Strategy and have responded to the questions the Spanish Presidency put forward in its discussion paper. The first contribution to this morning�s session came from European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs Anna Diamantopoulou, who focused on seven points: assessment of the EES, achievement of the Lisbon objectives, the challenge of EU enlargement, the need to simplify the EES without weakening the process, the spring Council and the linking of the social and economic components, the participation of the social partners, and mobilisation of all the European policies to assist employment. �Reasonable consensus� already exists on applying European Employment Strategy (EES) during this decade i>The President of the Employment and Social Policy Council, Juan Carlos Aparicio, has stated in Burgos that the Ministers agree on the need to pursue the objectives of the Lisbon Strategy "in harmony". |
