Informal Seminar of EU Ministers for Industry and Research seeks to boost innovation

The Spanish Presidency of the EU is organising the first ever joint meeting of EU Ministers for Industry and Research in an informal seminar to be held in S�Agar� (Girona) on 1 and 2 February.

OSCE-TERRORISM: Representative appointed to prevent and tackle terrorism

Lisbon, 29 Jan (EFE).- Former Danish Defence Minister Jan Troejborg has today been appointed as the OSCE Portuguese Chairman's Personal Representative for counter-terrorism initiatives, a Portuguese diplomatic source has said.

TOURISM: World tourism decreased 1.3% in 2001

Madrid, 29 Jan (EFE). World tourism fell by 1.3% last year, with a total of 689 million tourists making trips, the World Tourism Organisation (WTO)reported today.

EU-DENMARK: Danish Government to increase budget for forthcoming EU Presidency

Copenhagen, 29 Jan (EFE). The Danish Government has increased by more than 100 million kroner (approximately 13.5 million euros) the budgetary allocation for Denmark's EU Presidency in the second half of 2002, the Government said today when making public its budgetary plan for this year.

US-TERRORISM: US says Al Qaeda continues to be active in 50 countries and could attack again

Brussels, 29 Jan (EFE). The US Coordinator for Counter-terrorism, Francis Taylor, said today that the Al Qaeda network continues to be active in more than 50 countries and could attack again. At the same time, he indicated that the impact of the military campaign in Afghanistan on Al Qaeda's capacity for action was unknown.

Ana Palacio appointed Spanish Prime Minister�s representative in Convention on Future of Europe

The Convention will start work on 28 February in Brussels, with the assistance of the President of the European Council, Jos� Mar�a Aznar, and is due to complete its work one year later. Its final work document will set out options to serve as a starting point for the discussions at the Intergovernmental Conference, which will take the final decisions.
