| Spanish Presidency Summary of the Informal Meeting of Employment and Social Policy Ministers � Burgos, 19 January 2002 The Informal Meeting of Employment and Social Policy Ministers, chaired by Mr Juan Carlos Aparicio, has taken place in Burgos on 18 and 19 January 2002. Given the wealth of experience acquired in the operation of the European Employment Strategy, and its upcoming review, the opportunity was taken to hold a political discussion of the strategies that influence the social and employment fields, in the light of the current outlook and with a view to putting the Lisbon mandate into effect. New European employment strategy discussed in Burgos should encourage "more and better jobs" Speaking in Burgos, Spain�s Minister for Labour and Social Affairs, Juan Carlos Aparicio, has said that, five years on from the Luxembourg Agreement, the reform policies "are now more important" given the "new [economic] situation". In the opinion of the President of the Employment and Social Policy Council, what is needed in order to respond to the present economic changes is "more efficiency and more quality" in achieving the set objectives: |
