I have been on HGHT (Genotropin mini quicks) for about 2
years. It took my insurance company what seemed like forever to decide
it was covered. Until the insurance company made the decision the
drug company gave it to me with their compliments (no payback for me or
the insurance company). I guess they know which ones will pay and which
won't and it was worth it to them to get my business. My Endo had said
that they will sometimes do this. They actually worked with my insurance
company. The ins. was only going to pay 80% but with all my other
medications the cost was still too great. I told my contact from the
drug company about this and that my other medications were mail order
and I paid a $20 and $12 (generic) copay for 90 day
prescriptions. She talked with the insurance company and got it
straightened out. I was not a very forceful person at that time and
probably would have let it drop without the help.
Talk to your Endo. Maybe he/she can help you
out...or, call the drug companies.
For a while I didn't think the HGHT was helping. I felt
so bad all the time anyway (I am Panhypopituitary). I actually went off it.
After about a week I was literally bedridden. I had forgotten how bad it was
before. I don't know what I'd do without the insurance. It really does help
to have it if your body does not produce it.
My doctor takes small steps up with the dosage, keeping
very close check on by bloodwork. I am currently up to 1.6 mg.
Don't give up. Keep pushing.
