Hello! RDRAM's too damn expensive anyways...
Sis same out with the SiS645 chipset a few months ago -- it supports DDR for P4's , and i havent really heard any legal blah-blahs about it...if the whole VIA - Intel lawsuit just keeps gnawing at your brain, then maybe this is the chipset/board for you. btw, i read from a site that Intel plans to come out with its own chipset that supports DDR....*now* its getting clear why their suing VIA, isn't it? Before you sing praises about VIA, read the article "Who's screwing who?" on www.tomshardware.com ... pretty interesting tale of coercion, sex, and politics...well, maybe not sex. ..not that it matters though...in the end we still want the best mobo for the least buck, dont we? i think there are already some boards with that chipset around here. --- Rafael 'Dido' Sevilla <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > On Wed, Dec 05, 2001 at 06:38:48PM -0800, Pong > wrote: > > only intel is promoting RDRAM. the rest of the > motherboard chipset giants > > make use of DDR RAM. that means if you go for a > packaged cpu set with an > > intel pentium4 chip, it's most likely the vendor > placed in a RDRAM-only > > motherboard. what i fear is that you may not be > able to add in > > extra RAM in the future in case RDRAM dies in > favor of DDR. the solution > > is to have the vendor replace it with a DDR > capable motherboard but > > i dont know what chipset to use. maybe the Via > Apollo P4X266A chipset for > > intel pentium4s will do. this is the brother of > the KT266A chipset for > > athlons. > > Heck, Intel is even suing VIA for patent > infringement because they > created a Pentium IV motherboard that is capable of > using DDR RAM > instead of exclusively RDRAM.
