Via is supposed to release DDR SDRAM-based boards for Intel's P4, although how soon it reaches us only time will tell. > what i fear is that you may not be able to add in > extra RAM in the future in case RDRAM dies in favor of DDR. the > solution > is to have the vendor replace it with a DDR capable motherboard but > i dont know what chipset to use. maybe the Via Apollo P4X266A chipset > for > intel pentium4s will do. this is the brother of the KT266A chipset for > athlons. I doubt that DDR SDRAM will stay long, though. Though it gives a much needed bost over SDR SDRAM, it doesn't have the wide pipe that RDRAM has. On paper, RDRAM is supposed to be faster, but I think engineers all over are thinking of the next step from DDR SDRAM. In the meantime, RDRAM is a bit expensive, and so is DDR SDRAM over SDR SDRAM, but then again, 256MB should be enough for most people... for now. -------------------------------------- Gino LV.
