> two ways that JR MC can connect to your Squeezebox music
library: 1) via UPnP by means of Whitebear, and 2) via the Windows file
system where JR MC gives itself direct shared access to the same files
on disk that Squeeze Center is using.

When JR MC issues a Play To command via Whitebear to a Squeeze player,
it is essentially saying "play this url". And in library connection
mode 1) above, when Whitebear gets a "play this url", the url in
question is actually one that Whitebear created itself. And in this
case, Whitebear knows it is an own url, and so it tells the player to
play the respective track Id natively. In this native play mode, the
files are played with maximum possible resolution, according to SC's
own transcoding settings. And all the track meta data and album art
etc. are displayed on the player's UI and on the SC web UI.

In library connection mode 2) above, when Whitebear gets a "play this
url", the url in question is one that JR MC has created. In this case,
Whitebear tells SC to download and play the url from JR MC. In this
case the behaviour is the same as if you would be playing a remote
music, radio or podcast stream. In this remote stream play mode, the
files are played at the resolution determined by JR MC server's
transcoding settings. And unfortunately, no track meta data and album
art is available to be displayed.

the stream is determined by JR MC server's transcoding settings. This
is a manual setting in JR MC Tools | Options | Media Network | Audio
Conversion. By default it is set to convert to Mp3, but you can change
this to convert to "Uncompressed stream". In which case JR MC will
deliver the stream in lossless lpcm or wav.

{ note: in my opinion, having this audio conversion as a fixed setting
of JR MC is a bit of a kludge. The UPnP specifications allow the
Control Point to ask the player (Renderer) what kind of stream formats
it supports. And in my opinion JR MC should be doing this, and
consequently delivering the highest possible stream quality according
to the player's declared capabilities. I have told the JR MC designers
about this; so it is at least on their "to do" list... }

I hope this helps...
