I used a Duo 280 AC adapter to run and charge my iBook 366 for two years after I lost the original yo-yo, without problem. If it can handle that I'm sure it will be fine for the 1400.
The iBook would never charge while running, by the way. The battery level would remain constant, until I shut it off.

I'm trying to charge the battery with the Duo 230 adaptor for the time being, and I let it charge for about 6 hours today, and the machine wont power up. Would it take significantly longer to charge with this adaptor (~20 watt) versus a real 1400 adaptor (~45 watt)? If so, any idea how much longer?
Do you know if the 1400 battery is any good ? When was the last time it was charged ?
I've used a Duo AC adapter(weakest model M7783) to charge a 1400 battery, over nite after running it down w/ Battery Amnesia :

Yes, it seems slower and may not charge the battery w/ the 1400 running.
When its plugged in, the green light in the upper right hand corner comes on, if that means anything.
The green light in the upper rt. corner (when the 1400 is open) comes on (flashes) when in sleep mode.
Is it possible to actually boot the machine with this adaptor, or would it put out too little juice?
I just removed the battery module and the CD ROM module, plugged the Duo AC Adapter (M7783) into the 1400 ... booted fine. If you know the Duo AC adapter is good, that won't be your problem. W/ the battery and the CD out, the machine gets all the adapter's juice.
Also, would this machine boot with a dead PRAM battery? Maybe that's the problem?
I'm not sure on this.
Also, for those who responded about the Vimage Vpower G3 upgrade, how much ram are you running with? Could a ram shortage be causing problems with powering up?
I don't think amount of RAM is so important to the Vimage card. But what OS is installed can be important. Both in the OS's RAM requirement and which System the Vimage will work well with ... Do you know what OS is installed ?
If this neat little machine does decide to work for me, does anyone know where I can find an inexpensive CD module for it? (other than ebay, preferably)
Thanks in advance,
Jason

charges the 1400's battery a little slower than the OE adapter...
