Hello again,

thanks to all who offered me help with my recent hard drive crash. and
further to other comments, yes I do feel profoundly stupid for my lax
back up system ( in my feeble defence, I have had an extremely
difficult and distracting year and my back-up systems have fallen foul
to the chaos of the rest of my life!!!) HOWEVER, backing up is
extremely elementary and fundamental to our existance in this digital
world we all find ourselves in... so no excuses!

I tried Disk Warrior 3 ( much recommended by the list) and
unfortunately it has not helped me - it was unable to complete the
rebuilding of the directory - kept stalling on the "locating directory
data" despite running it for many hours, and repeating the process many
times. - "The hardware test revealed that the "S.M.A.R.T diagnostics
indicate a failure or pending failure that could result in loss of data"

so my question is, ( if you can possibly cope with another one) does
this mean my hard drive is likely to be irrepairable and should I just
give up and re-format ( and cry over my lost data) or should I keep
trying to find other solutions.
many thanks again,
Kirsty.
