Kirsty, There are 2 types of hard disk problems, those caused by corrupt files and those caused by physical or mechanical problems. There are many services out there that will do a professional analysis of the drive and then report back to you. They can then do everything possible to retrieve the data. They will put it all on to CD's or DVD's for you. They can be costly though, perhaps �500 to extract any lost data off the drive. Obviously this is usually worth it compared to what you stand to lose.
