Dear Phillip Now you know one of the darkest and less documented secrets about lighting enviroments. A fully calibrated and ICC compliant lava lamp!! Unfortunately Jeff must have dropped ( or he has it in another site) a QTVR film of the setup shot from the user's POV, which is (or was) more eloquent, specially since there was no human in the picture ( and no need to illuminate him either), so the light scene was more to the point and it is dim but I mean dim. So, to begin with, forget about windows in the same room where you intend to work for these color calibration matters .
