Ya, you can get hard numbers for other company stuff all day long,
but in my mind -
I view it a bit differently.

1. you're a one man show, basically, no other IT folk on the payroll.
2. how much money did you save them over the last calender year via
automation of process(es) ? Take that amount, multiply by 0.2 - that in
itself should be your yearly BONUS amount for prior year.
3. how much money are you going to save them for the next year? Take that
amount, multiply by 0.3 - make that your yearly performance bonus.
4. I think your 'position' should be at the same level as one of the
corporate folk, with the same level of headaches, responsibility, and pay.
If they don't see it that way, then you can make all kinds of spreadsheets
showing how things changed to the positive once you were able to make the
changes.
5. Salary aside, what about increase of benefits?
6. Salary aside, what about additional payment in percentage of the
company, along with scheduled revenue payments/payout ?
7. What did they do in prior year sales (2006) vs NOW (2007) ? If it's a
marked increase (say 30 percent increase over a years time), then you
should be able to point to where YOUR automation process(es) helped to
increase sales, and then claim that you should get a percentage of that.

Ya, I know - this is a strange POV, but in the same breath - it puts you
CLOSER to the management types, and with time, YOU become a management
type as well (if in fact, you're ready for that additional burden,
headache, and $$$). Besides, aren't you ready to become the CIO there,
anyway ?

Just food for thought.

Regards [Bill]
