Just thought about trying it under VMware but never found the time for
it. But I too would be interested in experiences of the one(s) who
tried.

Or even better: Altium/Protel follow Kat's advice, not every Linux
application has to be free, you can get money for it ... and you will
extend your customers base! Since we are considering a principal change
from NT4 to Linux for all our workstations the first five or so licences
would be moved.
