Dennis & others,
what PADS has done for many many years (decade+). Their database is
based upon the 0.000??254 (exact unit measure (mm?) alludes me but I
remember the 254 figure) as the base grid, thus they can switch metric to
imperial and back again without conversion issues. I thought this was the
same with Accel & PCAD but my experience with Accel was limited and I never
got into a lot of the database nitty grittys.
It is the only base grid solution that makes any sense, so where is
Protel's sense after all of these years? One thought on their dilemma is,
what would happen to legacy support if they switched base grid units? Then
all legacy designs would suffer the conversion error but at least that
should be a one time error/problem upon initial conversion.

Sincerely,
Brad Velander.
