The boy get's signed off in the course of time for the requirements by meeting them no-more no-less just like Royal Rangers are supposed to do. Howeverm knowing that they will have to stand before a board of review.. allows the Leader to act as "coach" to prepare the boy for a moment of -> reflection.<- The "Board" has a silent agreement that the requirements in the rank are not to be re-tested or questioned, because there has already been a "Commander conference" with the recomendation of the Adult leader for advancement. *Rather the question for the board is: Does this boy show the "maturity" to be advanced to say.. Tenderfoot? Can he carry the added responibility, and likewise be entrusted with the new "status"<G> Is he a good candidate to be a boy leader? The boy is expected to describe the Code and Pledge and what the ranger emblem means in his own boy-like words.. Does he get along with everyone? Is there life in his Patrol? What other things intrest him, and what does Rangers do to enhance his life? *I beleve this is where the "meaning" or "worth" of the award comes home to roost in the heart of the boy by the act of his own words before the public.. as a "confession of faith" The other beauty of a "Board of review" is when we use it to clear the air about a positive event or a shortcomming in the outpost, as when one patrol cuts the hose on a gas bottle and almost burns up the camp<G> A "problem boy" get's to see the mindset of the Board that can help him to improve his attitude, or suggest other ways to solve problems. This all runs along side of the weekly meeting and backs the authority of the boy leaders and Commander. *At least it's supposed too<G> give it a shot!
