Spirit Rider,

I'm behind on my messages, so you've probably heard
this before, but how long does your Pastor wait before
starting whatever he has for the adults? I bet it's no
more than 5 minutes, and only that if he's running behind
himself.
One of the main features of ANY meeting is starting
and ending ON TIME . As a trailblazer, it was my
responsibiliy to get to the meeting BEFORE it started, if I
was late (regardless of whose fault it was), I got whatever
the punnishment of the day was (usually push-ups,
one/minute late). Pioneers got the same, we didn't mix
with Buckaroos and Straight Arrows, so they may not have
gotten anything. As a Lt. Cmdr, I was in charge of making
sure the Sr. Guide was ready and watching the clock to call
everyone to fall in at 7:00:00. (He started speaking at
6:59:58, on an anolog clock on the room wall.) Now, as a
Sr. Cmdr, I often get caught up in last minute questions
from parents or church staff. But I still have 3
Commanders and 2 Jr. Commanders to get things started, and
I ALWAYS arrive before the openings finish.
Just sitting around waiting for latecommers is
encouraging boys (and parents) to show up late, and giving
idle time for the boys who are there to get bored. Start
on time. Emphasize that you are starting on time. You will
not only gain back those few minutes, but the rest of your
night will go smoother.

          Dale A Kingsbury,
          PR Coordinator,
          SE Penn. Section
