The following post was meant for good and if my words fall short forgive
me.
As a trailblazer, it was my
>responsibiliy to get to the meeting BEFORE it started, if I
>was late (regardless of whose fault it was), I got whatever
>the punnishment of the day was (usually push-ups,
>one/minute late). Pioneers got the same, we didn't mix
>with Buckaroos and Straight Arrows, so they may not have
>gotten anything.
Where do you find this kind of behaviour in the Leaders manual?
As a Lt. Cmdr, I was in charge of making
>sure the Sr. Guide was ready and watching the clock to call
>everyone to fall in at 7:00:00. (He started speaking at
>6:59:58, on an anolog clock on the room wall.) Now, as a
>Sr. Cmdr, I often get caught up in last minute questions
>from parents or church staff.
No excuses commander, give me a 50 word essay on why it is important to
conclude your business before you are required to attend the opening
ceremony. Also a few pushups in front of the outpost would feed my
craving to show my power. NOT.
But I still have 3
>Commanders and 2 Jr. Commanders to get things started, and
>I ALWAYS arrive before the openings finish.
> Just sitting around waiting for latecommers is
>encouraging boys (and parents) to show up late, and giving
>idle time for the boys who are there to get bored. Start
>on time. Emphasize that you are starting on time. You will
>not only gain back those few minutes, but the rest of your
>night will go smoother.

Dale try doing it like Jesus would do and you will find 20 leaders
working together, Sr. Guide doing his job without big brother watching
over him and the rest of the outpost would be in full class b uniform
with standards standing to attention, outpost council alongside all in
class b every week at opening ceremony.
Your job as Sr. Commander to take the opening over after pledges and
prayers or when Sr. Guide calls for you "Sr. Commander".
The greatest of these is love. If you love your outpost and you are able
to convey that love to them they will indeed show up before time just to
be in on the fellowship and commarderae.
I have seen the damage with my own two eyes what pushups (humilation)
will do to a young man infront of a group and it angers me that NTC
didn't convey the message that this is not the way to treat boys. We
only get a few chances to win the respect and trust of a young man.
Please, don't humilate and remove these rare chances. Follow the advise
found in the leaders manual. Council with the young men in private.
Please leave the NTC antics in the pit.
If we want them to come on time, start on time and end on time. That is
what it says in the Leaders Manual.
I reread and rewrote this message... this was as tame as I could go.
Yeow.
Mark
