Well Paula got her help situation fixed but I would appreciate some
additional help. I can bring up the help screen okay but when I try to
bring up any topic the right hand portion of the window states "Action
Cancelled" No details appear in the right hand portion of the window. I
have tried Paula's efforts to no avail. My files, databases, 7.1 program
files etc are all in one file d:\RBTI. I am on 7.1.80.30421. Thanks. Jay

John, Mike and Sami.....

Thanks for all your help. I just got everything working.
Here's what I found out.

1. When downloading the files from Rbase and then checking the
zipped files I got an "Unknown Publisher" message.
2. When I unzipped them and then checked the Properties Box on the
unzipped files, I got the "File has been blocked" message. I selected
UNBLOCK (had to do it for each and every file individually)
3. When I had the problem yesterday, and couldn't open the files, I
checked the Properties Box on a couple of them and got an "Unknown
Application" as the application. In my stupidity (I told you I'm not as
experienced as many of you) I changed it to "Rbase" instead of "HTML Help"
That changed the properties for ALL of them. Subsequent downloads seemed to
copy that property.
4. So, I deleted all the help files, re-downloaded them,
re-unzipped them, made sure they all had HTML Help as the Application and
Unblocked each file

VOILA! Everything now works.

I'm going to have to figure out what this new "File came from another
computer and has been blocked" deal is, as that's not happed before. I use
McAfee but have recently installed a Windows update as well.....so one of
them must have added a security feature I didn't have before.

Thanks again to everyone!

Paula,

I only have an RBG7.CHW file in my \RBTI\RBG7 directory. The modified time
and date on this is about when I downloaded the new help files today, as per
your system.

If I double-click on the help files, which XP identifies under Type as
Compiled HTML Files, they open immediately as expected as a help file.
Properties are fine as well.

One thing I have noticed with downloading from RBTI is that if I have Zone
Alarm running, the updates are usually corrupted when I try to run them
(corrupted EXE file error appears)- I now disable ZA when I download from
RBTI - when I forget to do this I have problems. Do you have anything like
this running on your PC ?

Does anyone know what the file RBASE.chw is?

I've now re-downloaded the latest version of RB7.1 (Release Candidate5
7/14/2005) When I re-downloaded the help files, and looked through the
RBG7 folder on my computer I found this file. It's not in the "typical
install" documentation I have for XP. It has a created date of October
2003 and a modified date of yesterday -- when I originally downloaded the
help files.

Also, clicking on the individual help files in Windows explorer causes
dialog boxes to come up saying "unrecognized command, retype it" and one
that says "more than 10000 lines or 400 items in input line" (happened
clicking on the Gateway help)

Also, clicking on the individual files to look at the properties shows a
message at the bottom that reads "This file came from another computer and
might be blocked to help protect this computer" with a button next to it
saying "unblock". When I clicked that, and tried to open the file...it made
no difference. I'm wondering if a Windows update has caused some kind of a
security lock on these.....

Paula,

I use WinZip with XPP - however as suggested by Mike if you try opening the
actual downloaded files you will be able to check their integrity, as they
should be able to be displayed readily.

Good luck.

Hi John,

Running Windows XP there's a self-extractor that's part of the
operating system. It's how I always unload the files. They download as
zipped folders. I select "extract all files" from the menu and tell it what
directory to send them to. The unzipped files are coming up with the date
and time they were extracted. I just assumed that because they were
overwriting the files that were already there.

Paula,

I have just downloaded the zip files, unzipped them into the directory where
7.1 resides and they work OK - the unzipped files are dated 14/7 7:10pm
(although it is 17/7 here) - how are you extracting the CHM files from the
downloaded zip files and changing the date etc ?

One thing I did notice though is that they still tell you can update
multi-table views.

Regards,

John Docherty

Sami,

They were dated 7/15/2005 and then I tried reloading them again from
the zipped files so now they're dated 7/16/2005.....or the date I installed
them. Even after reloading them again I can't get them to work...so now I
have no working help files at all.

Paula -

Mine seem to work just fine... Go out to Windows Explorer and check the
dates on the chm files in your RBG7 folder to be sure they are all dated
7/14.

Subject: [RBG7-L] - Help Files Don't work

Hi Razzak....

I downloaded the new help files, unzipped them to RBTI\RBG7 directory as
instructed. Then I opened RBase and clicked on the help icon and it came up
with the index list on the left of the screen and an internet page fault on
the right with and ACTION CANCELLED page error fault.

Do I have to do something besides extracting the files to the correct
directory? I've never been sent to a web page when opening help files
before (unless I specifically selected going to online help).
