David, thanks for your thoughts and success. I just did the re-start option
and that didn't work either. I still get the "Action Cancelled" statement
in the right hand window.

I also report problems with the help files which eventually I overcame.

I followed these steps:

1. Downloaded and installed Release candidate 5 of Build 81 and build 10 of
R:Base 7.5 2. Zipped my existing help files into a file with PKZIP.
Unfortunately, I did NOT realize help.rid was also a key file and did not
back that one up.
3. Downloaded each of the help zip files, unzipping them with PKZIP for
Windows. IN the beginning I messed up: the default directory that came up,
becuase it was the last one I had unizpped into, was C:\RBTI\RBG75 and I
OK'd it and only after the first 3 did I realized my mistake.
4. So I started again and unzipped everything into the right directory.
5 Started up R:Base: any attempt to start help, by typing HELP at the R>
prompt or
clicking on the question mark icon hung R:Base. I had to CTRL / ALT / DEL
to release it.
6. Figuring it might be my fault for unzipping in the wrong directory, I
restored my original help files from my zip file AND restored the RID file
from another PC. No change 7. Reasoning maybe the problem was with build
81, I restored the previous build of 81: no change.
8.. Started up 7.5 and tried help: this also hung.
9. Copied help files for 7.5, including the RID file from aother PC and
overwrote mine: no change.

Throughout all of this, the files worked fine from explorer, but not from
R:Base.

FInally, knowing how wierd my PC gets sometime I shut it down, restarted it
and tried again.

Everything now is fine. I restored release candidate 5, unzipped the new
help files again, testing after each one just to be sure. Help works fine
now.

Go figure!
