I just re-read all these posts, and everything is sinking in better as I learn more. It's so helpful of you to share information! I've spent hours reading the forums here, on MediaMonkey, and dBpoweramp. These forums are the best ones! Plus, I ultimately want to use a system that works best with the squeezebox duet, so I really want to check things out with this group.
So, I have downloaded MediaMonkey gold and the dBpoweramp R13. In MediaMonkey I downloaded Trixmoto's BatchArtFinder script to use as a tool to find album art for the existing 700 CDs. That took awhile, but went fine. Then, I used right-click and auto-tag from web to get some of the ones that were still missing. I am still trying to decide what settings to use in dBpoweramp. This is what I know so far: - FLAC - Options (top menu): secure ripping method - DSP (bottom left side menu): Add DSP/Action ReplayGain - calculate track gain Question 1: Does anyone have any other settings to add? Does anyone change the default naming scheme in a way that you think works better with squeezebox? I also need to figure out if the existing 700 CDs are tagged okay. Just a short while ago, I had no idea what a tag was. Now, I guess I know that in MediaMonkey, if I right-click and select properties, I am viewing the tags for tracks/albums. Question 2: What I'd like to know is if the existing tags I have will work with the duet. (The tags are largely from ripping using iTunes.) In the properties window, almost all tracks show correct information for track title, artist, album, and album artist. Does that mean things will work like they are supposed to? Our duet is in the mail, and I'd like to be ready for it! Question 3: The 700 CDs are organized well into folders that can be viewed in the XP explorer window, or whatever you call it. It goes Artist folder > Album folder > files. The inconsistent part is how the files are named. Sometimes it's the iTunes way, 01 Rebel Yell.m4a, and sometimes it's other things, like Billy Idol - Rebel Yell.mp3. Does it matter to the duet if file names are in various formats? Is there any reason for me to agonize over that? I would love to not have to learn mp3tag for now. :-) I'll appreciate any feedback. My hpmediasmart arrived, but I'm waiting on my 2 GB RAM to arrive (should be Mon) so I can upgrade that before I set it up. Then, the squeezebox should be arriving anytime. Time to get it all set up! -- what_to_buy ------------------------------------------------------------------------ what_to_buy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19555 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51538 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
