One thing that was missed - you can install SqueezeCenter at any time. It's free.
It would be better to get it up and running now and make sure everything's OK than trying to figure out both the software and the hardware simultaneously when the Duet arrives. It doesn't need 2 GB of RAM, I've run it on as little as 512 KB. Of course 2 GB will help it a lot but you can probably test it out on what you have right now.
