The Itunes aac rips are quite good actually but the mp3 encoding is
not.  If you want to go to mp3 then I would recommend dbpoweramp for
the job.  It won't do better rips than EAC but you'll have much better
tags (metadata) and a lot of tools for conversion plus a ton of dsp
affects.  You do have to pay for it but it's well worth it.
