Um, no. This proposal has modes; there will always be cases where these
modes are undetectable by inspection. So any tool that doesn't support
the PI will require manual configuration to get the same effect. User
will notice.
(Plus, choosing the proper mode will require manual configuration, which
was in my original feedback. The proposal just trades one sort of
tool-specific configuration for another.)
