Ace ties were great. I built most of my second layout with them. The wood
grain and tieplate detail was terrific and the spikes were near scale and were
tough. The ties were cast in some tough plastic that took paint well. One
could space them any width and angle without having to cut out that nasty
spacer that's used on flextrack. The only problem was that code 125 was the
smallest size made. They are very hard to find now. I was told that the
original mold would only cast 10 at a time!

In the olden daze, we used to call them "scale grapefruits".

Before traveling down that path, you might wanna take a gander at the
ACE ties of days gone bye. These had far more detail and smaller
spikes, but were not in a strip. Each one had to be "threaded" with
rails one at a time. Almost as fun as ballasting.
