Don: That's right, his name was Jim Peters. He even made up a test car for me with Ace trucks modified to the proposed standards. It worked, too, but to this day, I don't know what ever became of it
I guess I was kind of in the middle of that controversy, as well, after talking to A.B.Bradley, who was head of the NMRA Standards committee at the time (1980). The major feature of the proposed NASG standard was that, for the most part, wheels conforming to NASG standards would operate on trackage conforming to NMRA standards because critical tolerances of both overlapped to some degree. There were pros and cons to both standards, and, as you say, some of the debates got heated and even personal. My position was that, as a relatively new modeler in S, I would go with the wishes of the majority. I even did some work with Bradley and Peters at the time and learned a whole lot about wheel and track relationships, and saw certain advantages to each. To this day, I still use old Miller tie strip (NMRA) for yard tracks, etc., for more efficient operation (less coupler misalignment) of Kadee couplers Let's not get THAT started again!
