I have seen it done with incandescent bulbs -- very effective. I don’t see
why could not be done with LEDs, and probably more reliably because there is no
heat to speak of. I will be giving it a try when decoders start going into my
locos.

Bill or anyone else, Have you tried drilling out an MV lens and installing a
golden white LED into it? I thought I had read of this being done some years
ago. I'm not sure if it was an LED that was used or a regular bulb.
