Andy brings up a new point with regard to LEDs. Some LEDs come with a focusing
lens that provides a sharp beam of light in the right direction to simulate a
headlight piercing the night. Other LEDs come with a diffused lens suitable
for interior lighting of a caboose. Still other LEDs come with light output
going in five directions all at once. Visualize a cube with the wires coming
out the back and the light coming out of all other sides. Some LEDs are
amazingly tiny -- like .020" by .040" specifically designed with a color to
mimic incandescent lights. I use them inside classification lights on locos.
Work great, brighter than mini-bulbs and never burn out if used correctly.
Yep, I am biased. Ed L.
