[Audyssey] Thoughts on Tarzan Junior
Well, I started playing TJ around nine, and it's about 2:20. There are some interesting levels as those of you who have played it know. But I've finally found a disturbing sound. Never before have I heard such a creepy sound as when the tigers eat Tarzan. Also, when he falls into the river I imagine falling--and what a dive it would be too, until you hit that cold water. Ouch! I think the only thing that could have made this game even better would have been two things: a human voice announcing scoring and levels, and analog jumps. That game was a bit ahead of its time I think. Hey Tom, could you put swinging vines like that in Mota? Re: [Audyssey] Implementing graphic in games with andwithoutsidedassistence
Hi Dark, Yeah, well, that's just the minimum specs. The truth is that's not including apps such as Goldwav, Soundforge, Photoshop, etc that need CPU power and ram of their own. Most experts recommend at least a 2 GHZ processor, 2 GB of ram, and a video card with 256 of video ram just for a basic office machine running Windows 7. As most computers in offices aren't that up to date companies are going to have to shell out quite a lot of money to upgrade both hardware and software. So anyway, I definitely understand your position. Unfortunately, I don't think Microsoft will be changing their habits any time soon. They have their ajenda to totally rewrite the user interface for everything which totally ups the learning curve for anyone who is blind and uses a screen reader, or even if it isn't hard to learn it upsets your own personal organisation etc. For instance, I have a friend who has to use Microsoft office 2010. Well, he was using MS Office 2003 previously so the jump from 2003 to 2010 was something like jumping butt naked in a frozen lake as far as the user interface goes it was that much of a shock. He had no experience with menu ribbons, the way things are reordered on the screen, and he has been constantly cussing and complaining about it ever since. The problem is he can't find what he's looking for half the time where with Office 2003 or earlier he can tell you exactly where to find it without looking at it. It is these sorts of unnecessary user interface changes that I think will eventually turn people off of Microsoft products if they aren't careful. This is where the open source community is quickly filling that gap. For Windows 7 users someone created Classic Shell which is a nice little third-party patch to force Windows 7 to go back to looking more or less like Windows XP. If you really hate Office 2010 there is Open Office 3.3 which uses a classic MS Office look and feel. The only drawback is it doesn't support the new docx format of 2007/2010, but every Office format up to 2003 is supported. So it does make a great alternative for MS Office for most users. My only complaint is Windows screen readers don't support it where the Linux and I believe the Mac screen reader does. Anyway, my basic point is there are cheaper freely available products that are slowly but surely over taking Microsoft products on their own platform. One of the big reasons is Microsoft's new inovations are backfiring and simply are ticking people off. What Microsoft hasn't quite figured out is that what people want is stability, reliability, plus long term support. That's why XP was such a success. It was designed in 2001, but it is being maintained and supported clear upto the present day. Three service packs later there are both blind and sighted people who refuse to give it up because it has reached a point were it is very stable, reliable, etc and most people are of the if it ain't broke don't fix it opinion. That's hurting Microsoft's big plans I think. Cheers! On 4/21/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi Tom. Ouch! those specs aren't nice, though i will admit that sinse I find out about classic shell I'm less apprehensive of the point when I need to upgrade to windows 7. part of my issue, as well as the 3D graphical stupidity, is also that microsoft seem to have an obsession with ordering your desktop and other menues according to their! criteria, eg, most recently used this, recommended that, standard the other. I stil use the classic menue in windows xp, not because the standard one is less accessible, but simply because it's far easier to organize in the way that I desire. For instance, the only shortcuts I have on the desktop itself are programs i use a lot and have keys to, like winamp, ms word and outlook express (certainly not games), while in my programs menue I have a hole bunch of folders and subfolders for different hings. For instance, I have an audiogames folder, with the games indexed by developer, so that if I want to play shades of doom or gma tank commander, even if I haven't played it for ages, i know just where to find it. The same goes for my favourites, where I have folders of links for all sorts of subjects from audiogames to online games, to sf resources, to useful bits of software and philosophy books online. The last thing I want is some ms specific arrangement messing all this organization up or requiring me to change a system which i've used now for about the last ten years. So, that's why I hope that by the time it comes to upgrade, ms will have sorted their act out, sinse while I could go mac or linux, sinse I only really use the computer for specific things all of which I've got favourite programs for most of which are windows specific (not to mention compatibility with games etc), I'm not sure how much bennifit I'd personally get from changing os. Re: [Audyssey] Bouncing hopping and stopping
Dark, the problem is that these things require physics. surface friction, speed, gravity (if you're in the air) etc. Most bilnd people have never studied physics, and some of them don't even bother to look at easy premade physics functions. So this is really the main sisue. I have been looking through racing game programming tutorials etc so I can learn the physics I never took at school, but haven't had time to code anything simple yet. hth On 4/21/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi. Once again I've been playing a game people will know, the very original super marrio brothers game, (actually the version released on the Snes with super mario all stars which has improved graphics, sfx and music, but the mechanics and game are stil just the same as the Nes). One factor which (having not played marrio for a while), I am having to get used to again, is Marrio's less than precise jumps. not only are his jumps analogue, eg, you get more distance with a run up, and more distance depending upon how long you hold the button, but also, Mario is not the most reliable at stopping or controlling his moves in the air. When bouncing off enemies, or jumping a gap with a run, I'm having to re-learn the way you need to hit the opposite direction to stop marrio skidding along. While playing marrio, I found myself trying to considder which elements could be shown in an audio game. Pits of varying distance? no problem. ledges of variable hight, --- -possibly slightly more complex but doable. Enemy position walking at you, falling on you etc? for most enemies no trouble (though the clockwise or anticlockwise swinging fire chains in bowser's castles may be problematic). however, one element is stil not doable, namely the fact that Mario needs to take just as much account of things vertically above or below, and that his chief method of killing enemies, jumping up above them and stomping on their heads, would not really be easy to do in audio. However, one element which seems completely missing from any and all audio games, is this business of stopping distance. Whether it's sarah, Angela carter or the agent in shades of doom, everyone seems to be able to stop on an instant, whether their running along or jumping. This doesn't just count 2D games either, as in many 3D or first person games, moves like sliding sideways to avoid attacks or ducking and rolling are very common. Then, there is the question of surface. Ice climbers, Mega man, Marrio 2, and about a hundred other platform games (including original dokey kong if I remember correctly), employ various factors to change your characters stopping distance or walking speed. These could be conveyer belts moving in one direction or another (even some walk along beat em ups like double dragon and streets of rage had these), ice to make you slip further when jumping or not stop so quickly when walking, winds or fans blowing you about and making you do longer jumps, quick sand or mud to slow you down, turning cog wheels to walk or jump on (some of the most evil ledge jumping puzles I know in turrican or castle vania involved these). The same goes for 3D games too, indeed in tenchu stealth assassin, you had gravel which you had to walk tthrough softly to avoid making a noise, while you could walk at normal speed on grass. I find it quite strange that racing games like topspeed have done a lot for stopping distance and different surface, but none of the audio 2D or 3d games as yet have. it just strikes me this is a very easy factor to play with in audio, --- simply by altering the sound of your characters' steps, and I find it a litle perplexing as to why nobody has yet, which is why I'm bringing it up here. Obviously, if mota's mechanics and traps are already designed so this sort of thing won't fit in fair enough, but maybe anyone who is working on a 2D or 3D action game could considder this. Re: [Audyssey] Bouncing hopping and stopping
While I see your point here Oriol, I'm less certain it actually requires that! much realistic physics at all the way a racing game would. Take a game like ice climbers. You jump about five times your characters' own hight but only one block to either side. You have three basic functions, walking, jumping and swinging your hammer and that is it, sinse the game is incredibly simple, in fact I doubt there is an overall physics engine there at all. yet, it uses the conveyer belts idea, as well as ledges moving at different speeds to create complex situations as a challenge to the player, simply I believe by tracking different movement wrates wrelative to the characters' walking speed. I'm not suggesting a full blown physics engine here, just that monkeying around with surfaces your char walks on might be a fun addition to games. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] Bouncing hopping and stopping
Hi Oriol, Yes, that's exactly the problem in a nutshell. As you correctly pointed out most amateur developers, blind and sighted alike, don't have the background math and physics skills required to add such a degree of realism to their games. Even if you do have the skills it is just one more complexity you need to worry about when programming. So that's basically why you don't see things like this in Q9, Super Liam, Mysteries of the Ancients, etc. On 4/21/11, Oriol Gómez ogomez@gmail.com wrote: Dark, the problem is that these things require physics. surface friction, speed, gravity (if you're in the air) etc. Most blind people have never studied physics, and some of them don't even bother to look at easy premade physics functions. So this is really the main issue. I have been looking through racing game programming tutorials etc so I can learn the physics I never took at school, but haven't had time to code anything simple yet. hth --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] A mark of excellence in a developer.
Over on the Entombed list, there has been a wave of discussions concerning different ways to cheat in playing Entombed to increase your party size, bring items from game into another, etc. Now mind you, there's a paid-for cheat that does some of these things, but clever players have figured out different ways to spoof the game. Now, I have used these cheats to increase the replay value of the game, to experiment with character combinations I might not choose in the game as intended. I have enjoyed the results and they have added significantly to the replay value of Entombed while we wait for upgrades. This morning, I read a message from the game developer Jason Allen. I expected it to be at best luke-warm on the subject. Instead he says basically that it's awesome people have been finding ways around the limits imposed on the game and that he's considering adding capabilities into the actual game to mimic some of the cheats. Here's a developer who is taking a player-driven phenomenon, recognizing the underlying message of directions of development we'd like to see, and embracing it. To me, this is a mark of excellence and flexibility. I tell this story not to chastise any developers, but to provide positive feedback in the larger blind gaming community for this kind of creative thinking and relationship developed between game creators and their fans. This earns loyalty, trust and respect, even when the rest of life means that a developer has no time to devote to the game we're playing and breathlessly awaiting new developments in. Anyone considering becoming a game developer (which I am) would do well to look at this example of engagement and take its lessons to heart. Thank you and I'm off the soap box now. Hey Clemant and all. Thanks for this initial review of MK. I am really pleased to hear this, as the MK games I have, mk deception for ps2 mk unchained for psp which is the same thing and mk armageddon for ps2 are some of the games I play the least, I don't dislike them in any way I just have other games that I like more and only so much time for gaming. Sounds like this new one really has some really good improvements, I will definitely be picking up a copy sometime fairly soon, I could actually afford to get it now but I will probably pick up that SC for my psp instead if gamestop has a copy. My psp library is much weaker and in more need of improvement than is my ps3 library. Anyhow I look forward to your full review when you get your hands on a copy of MK9. Game on. I'm impressed. Skeptical, yet hopeful. That's what I always was about MK 9. Those of you who know me will know that I've been an MK fan for a long time, until the more recent games. I liked them at first, but when I started getting deeper into the fighting game sceen, I realized why a lot of people didn't like them compared to other fighters or even the older MK games. I had the chance to play it briefly today, only for about 2 hours... but I got the general drift, and this short review will give the impressions I got. I don't have the game yet myself.. but when I do, more detail will be forthcoming! Gameplay: This is a bit of an interesting point. I didn't like MK Vs. DC. The controls felt very sluggish, and the combos just didn't cooperate... and there were a lot of glitches I found playing against other fighting game players, as well as a lot of infinites. When I played MK 9, I actually initially didn't like the engine all that much. I found the combo timing way too lenient... you could press three buttons in rapid succession and have the third hit of the combo half a second later, which means the controls are not in sync with the hit animations and attacks. But after a while, you got used to it... and it became more of a challenge to not press them to quickly in case your opponent was blocking. In that case, you got punished because they blocked your attack andcountered while you were still halfway through the combo. Characters this time did feel quite different to me, which is something I've wanted in an MK game for a long time. Subtle things like uppercuts having different properties for characters, certain characters better at a closer range than others... those have never been existent in a fighting game til now, and I was pleased to see it. As someone who puts countless hours into fighting games, MK always got stale because the characters were always so similar. And... that super meter. Really need to watch that. There are three bars of it, and you can use those to perform enhanced specials aka super street fighter 4 x-specials, breakers with two bars full or an x-ray attack with 3 bars. X-rays were the one thing I didn't like... because as much fun to watch as they were, they interrupted the pace of the game, and they do way, way too much damage. Sound: The music could still have more variety. I won't lie... but for Mortal Kombat music, it's quite good. Voice acting is also surprisingly well-done this time around, unlike in MK Vs. DC. Nice to hear characters saying a few things I can understand.. even though there's still a lot of gibberish mixed in. Final thoughts... as I said. I'm impressed, as are many people from the fighting game fanbase. But in all honesty, MK made the comeback I hoped it would. It's been a long time since I had fun with an MK game, but this one sure did it for me... expect a more detailed review when I get my copy of the game! --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Python resources, possibly somewhat o/t
Ok, I have to come clean. I love the intellectual puzzle-solving aspects of programming, and used to be a pretty hot algorithm designer in class programming teams. The drudgery that is most programming has turned me away from this love. Recently while pondering a challenge in playing RSW, (retro starweb) I decided that programming was going to be my only solution, other than waiting for the developer to create the text-based client. In checking out the current programming landscape, I discovered Python, which I had known about in a sort of oh, this exists and is scriptish, kind of way. But in investigating further, I found a language I could very much fall in love with, given some proper resources to learn from. So, to those of you who program out there, if any of you use Python, can you steer me to resources where I can learn the language, and get some nudges on algorithm development? The possible pay-off is that I may end up throwing my hat into the games blind people can play development ring, and more devs is a good thing, right? With card games you can probably find the graphics for a card game from a number of sources as there are a number of open source games for Linux where all the drawing and creation of the onscreen graphics is done for you. At that point all you would need to do is program it. Which is pretty easy given that all you are doing is displaying a number of static images of one or more cards in your hand. In fact, any beginners book to DirectX graphics and and animations usually begins with something like Blackjack or Hearts just to break you into the basics while not getting into any complicated discussion. Something like Doom III, however, is a totally different story. There is several megs of images that get loaded and mixed by your graphics engine to produce real time animation. This is considerably more complex in the long run, and requires very precise calculations and a lot of number crunching to pull off that realistic 3d real time animation that all the sighted gamers expect from top tear titles. To be honest I've looked into real time graphics and animation, and a lot of the technical aspects goes right over my head. I'm not sure an amateur would bbe able to really pull it off without a few extra college courses on the side to understand it well. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] Implementing graphic in games with and without sidedassistence
hmmm you are probably right. I have stock graphics that comes with the systems I use and mostly these are quite fast. I'd probably get midrange dedicated sound and graphics if I could though. Hi Shaun, Well, then it will come as a big surprise to you that the better the graphics card the better Jaws, Window-Eyes, Hal, etc will work with it. You really do need that extra memory etc if you are dealing with offscreen models and all the other stuff that screen readers use. Plus these days starting with Windows Vista and Windows 7 you definitely don't want the cheapest, most low-end, video card because all that 3d graphics for Windows arrow requires a pretty decent video card. The more memory on the video card to handle Windows arrow the less physical ram has to be used to handle the new desktop environment, graphics, and animation. Which, unfortunately, is exactly the problem with your opinion. You and a lot of others believe since you can't see it that you don't need a high-end video card. Why does it matter? Why do I need it? I can't see it so buy the cheapest thing on the market. The problem with that opinion/attitude is that its based on some eronious assumption that it doesn't matter, but it does matterfor a lot of reasons. Windows, inparticular, is a highly graphical operating system. It was designed for the sighted market therefore requires a fairly decent video card, lots of ram, and processor power. Windows 7 especially is extremely graphical, and a lot of people, including companies, have to replace a lot of their XP era video cards just to run it because the level of detail and animations in the graphics technology has changed that much since XP. The rule of thumb is the more ram etc you have on the video card the better if you plan to run Windows 7, because you need it for all the new graphics. And if you are thinking you'll just turn it off you can't. You are limited how much you can turn down/off in Windows 7 compared to XP. I'd like to say this was limited to Windows 7, but I can't. Truth is thanks to Microsoft's drive to market Windows with the most realistic graphics and animation possible other developers like Apple and linux are slowly cranking up the graphicaal content of their desktops as well. Ubuntu Linux 11 apparently has a new desktop theme/environment called Unity. I don't know much about it, but it is suppose to be a lot more graphical than previous Ubuntu desktop versions. This ups the system requirements somewhat because now they are trying to compete with Microsoft for the flashiest, most graphical, most awesome looking desktop U.I. All that spells out high-end video card for sighted and for the blind to run it. That has nothing to do with weather you can actually see it or not. Re: [Audyssey] Derek the Claric
yeah I like it to though you really need some way to unlock wall switches since if you have not unlocked slam you can't open things. Speech was total crap but the 8 bit sfx were not a big issue. Loading them all up is fine but without a loadingm essage i assumed the game was not doing anything, things semi locked and the game then loaded. I could even do some of the general voices. Well, I just got done beating this new platform game, and I have some comments. First, a keystroke to turn off certain descriptions like jump gap would be helpful.Second, does this come from the same guy that made Battle Zone? If you need voice acting for the game, there are tons of us on list who would do it. Since there aren't that many voices, in the demo at least, I could provide enough characterization for it, though I'd leave the sphere's voice just the way it is. Third--well, other than a bit too much verbosity and hard to understand synthesized voices I liked the game. Re: [Audyssey] Implementing graphic in games with and withoutsidedassistence
its a pitty ribbons can't be turned off to in such things as office. Yes the i3 my brother uses is cool and yeah I only use it to keep it updated and don't have to do much bar search for things but then its not mine. If it was I think I would have done some major system fiddling ages ago though I like bits of the interface. Hi Dark, Definitely. There are a lot of people who are turned off by the high-end graphics and animation in Windows 7. Including me, because I have to have a pretty high-end computer just to run the OS let alone any apps. Then, because of all that 3d Windows Arrow interface that 3 GHZ system with 2 GB of ram etc runs no better than a 1 GHZ system with 512 MB of ram with XP just because of the extra bloat. Here is a nice little comparison for you. Windows XP 500 MHZ processor, 128 MB ram, and 1 GB free hard drive space. That's the initial system requirements for the OS as I recall. Here is Windows 7. Windows 7 1 GHZ processor, 1 GB ram, and at least 4 GB hard drive space. Which is way more than XP in terms of basic specs. It requires four times the hard drive space, twice the processor power, and 10 times the memory. Talk about bloat! This is one reason my wife and I are looking at open source alternitives. Even though Ubuntu is looking at more graphics intensive user interfaces like Unity you still have the option to turn it off and use the classic desktop if you want to. Plus they have a XUbuntu version that was designed for low-end machines and low memory environments. So I think Linux has the right idea here. For new Windows users the only option is something like Classic Shell. I've tried it and it is a really nice piece of software. It basically gives you options to turn off Windows Arrow, a lot of the animations, use classic folder views, use classic start menu, etc which is 100 times more accessible than the defaults you get with Windows 7. Plus by turning off all that graphical garbage the OS runs better too. H..I wonder why? Cheers! On 4/20/11, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Yep. Re: [Audyssey] Implementing graphic in games with and withoutsidedassistence
well I know there was some argument with current screen manufacturers earlier about ms taking over reader markets and saying it would only work with ms stuf. Narater, well what good is it. nvda is a glorified narater at any rate. It will do about 99% of all programs that have coman controls in fact with those that use all the ms stuff it runs closer to full use of all the features than comercial readers do. ANd it doesn't care what graphics card you have. Actually, windows 8 is in early alpha stages and I know a blind user who's testing it. Narrator actually is taking on some apple concepts of screen navigation, so who knows. Maybe ms will continue it. - Original Message - From: Trouble troub...@columbus.rr.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2011 4:03 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Implementing graphic in games with and withoutsidedassistence Don't think they will listen, because the next move Microsoft is going towards is touch screen and forget the keyboard. Re: [Audyssey] Python resources, possibly somewhat o/t
Yes. I'm looking for something that addresses creation of traditional data structures, or tells me about how Python does them better. For instance for game creation, one needs an efficient way of grouping game data into objects that control in-game things like characters, ships, terrain, etc. I see some ways of doing these things, but not knowing about Python's code optimization strategy, I don't know which are most efficient and which are easiest to write in the language. I've looked at a fair bit of the tutorial and done some specific searching. Are any of the typical resources available in accessible formats other than e-books? Re: [Audyssey] Possible WWE Roster
Hi Jason, Oh cool, thanks, that is nice to know that an RKO is just a DDT. And I always thought that the sharp shooter was just a Boston crab. The Iron Sheik used the camel clutch. Sergeant Slaughter used the cobra clutch. For the camel clutch you are squatting and sitting on the man's back, his arms are on your thighs and you are pulling up and back on his chin. For the cobra clutch you have hold of the man's wrist and pull it across and up against the other side of his neck. You then slide your other arm up under his arm and put it against the other side of his neck and squeeze thus cutting off the circulation through the carotid arteries. Re: [Audyssey] well, what can I say? I'm impressed.
The psp version of soul calibur IV isn't exactly the greatest... no gameplay problems, but in terms of content, with no arcade or story mode, you can really only do quick matches and go through the gauntlet mode which is basically like the tower of lost souls. Hi Karl, That's not too good. SAPI 5.1 voices like Mike, Mary, and Sam aren't compatible with 5.3 and 5.4 and let's hope they didn't overwrite any critical files or you are screwed. The only way I know of to remove them is to edit the registry with regedit and remove the voices from your list of SAPI 5 voices. That is assuming you don't have an entry in Programs and Features. Re: [Audyssey] Python resources, possibly somewhat o/t
Hi Christopher, Well, the nice thing about Python is there are a lot of online resources. Before you do anything I think you should read the free tutorials, wiki, etc over on www.python.org to get a beginner to intermediate education on Python. The tutorials/programming guides are written at a beginner level, and I highly recommend them for new programmers like yourself. Once you get some programming experience under your belt you might want to look at the PyGame website www.pygame.org which is a Python wrapper for LibSDL. This will get you started on game programming adding sounds, music, and event driven input to your projects. However, with that said a bit of wisdom/advice from an old hand at programming. I'm not sure what your expecations are here, but I'd like to point out some advantages and disadvantages you will encounter with the Python language. I hope to give you a somewhat realistic and balanced look at it from a gaming perspective. On the plus side Python is easy to learn, is cross-platform, and there are a number of simple APIs like PyGame available to help you quickly get up and running with game programming. Python is generally a scripting language, but it can design anything from a simple script all the way up to full blown applications. All of this makes Python look good on the surface. On the down side Python is still a runtime language that requires an interpreter or runtime environment to run. As a result if you are thinking about creating high performance games that have to update 40 to 60 times a second Python is going to exicute and run very slow. It was never designed to handle high performance applications like Shades of Doom, Mysteries of the Ancients, etc. For something like that you really need a triditional language like C++ to get the most performance out of your CPU power and memory. Second, some of the APIs like PyGame aren't the best APIs available for game developers. PyGame is decent if you are going to produce a football game like Jim's NFL, Star Trek Final Conflict, or something like that, but if you are thinking of something like Shades of Doom or Mysteries of the Ancients forget it. PyGame's audio API, SDL Mixer, doesn't have very realistic virtual 3d audio, doesn't really have any DSP effects to speak of, and there are certainly better alternatives out there for C/C++ programmers. If you want only keyboard access PyGame is fine, but if you want advanced Joystick support like force feedback and things like that again no go. PyGame just doesn't have that kind of support yet. Finally, there is the issue of using Python as a springboard to other programming languages. I don't know about your plans so I'm just shooting from the hip here, but a lot of people want to try Python before moving onto something else after they get good at it. The problem is that you are going to have to start over from scratch if you use Python and switch to Java, C#, C++, whatever because you didn't learn much as it relates to other programming languages. In fact, it has been my personal opinion for a long time Python teaches programmers bad habits that make it difficult to adapt to other languages later on. For instance, Python is a non typed language. That means that when declaring functions and variables you don't have to initialize it with an explicit data type like integer, float, double, char, etc. While this is very nice for newbies, perhaps less confusing, its none-the-less a very bad habbit to get into. Especially, considering most programming languages require an explicit data type, and you should learn to do that from the beginning rather than learning something like Python and have to start over learning what you should have learned from the beginning. In other words what I'm saying I think Python takes too many shortcuts that gives you a less than aduquit education in programming techniques and theory. As I said, I don't know about your long term plans here but I'll end on this note. If you want to be an amateur game developer go with Python. However, ifyou want to be a pro, write really pro level games, then you have got to take the bull by the horns and learn something a bit more advanced than Python. Re: [Audyssey] Wrestling Game Updates/Decisions
Hi, No, you don't. As I said any defensive actions will be automatic. Here is an example. Let's assume you are playing a match of Eve Torres vs Brie Bella. If Brie Bellla tries a missile dropkick there will be an internal calculation/roll of stats to determine if she successfully performed the move or not. If not it might say something like, Eve deftly steps aside and Brie Bella, finding nobody home, hits the mat hard. Now, it looks like Eve is back in control of this match. Behind the scenes, so to speak, all that is happening is a stat check to see if a move succeeds or fails. If it succeeds Brie Bella pulls off a stunning dropkick to Eve Torres. If it fails it will print some message of a ddefensive play on your part like deftly stepping out of the way, breaking loose of a hold, kicking out of apin, whatever. P.S. I'm glad Eve kicked Nikki Bella's butt last Monday night on raw. Let's see if she gets her title back from Brie Bella at Extreme Rules. Cheers! I just received my Logitech F510 Rumble Gamepad and have a few questions. 1 can some one please send me a description of the buttons left to right? I have found the direction sticks and the button that looks like a plus witch I assume is your up down left and right button.that is on the left there are also 4 buttons on the right side. I am not sure what these would be for. also there are 2 buttons on the back on the left and right. and there are 2 buttons in the middle that look rectangular and like little lines. I also just to be safe ordered the same controller but the 710 moddle. it looks the same but has a few extra buttons. I would also like to know if I need to install the cd's that came with these controllers?each of them have cords atached to them. or is this a case of plug and play? many thanks. from Mich. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] problum configuring the usb controler
Hi Mich, Its actually very simple. You start by enabling joystick support. Hopefully once you do that it will initialize and plug and play the device you have enabling it for use with the game. Now, you go into configure joystick and select an action you want to map. Let's assume here you select fire weapon. You press enter on that and it will ask you to press a button to map. You pick up your joystick and press the button you want to map to the fire control. It will asign it to your joystick profiler, and then take you back to the configure menu. If that does not happen then there could be a problem with your joystick. One common issue I've been getting from users using the F510 and F710 is they don't have the controller correctly configured for DirectInput. Instead, sometimes the controller ships with XInput by default, and you simply have to flip the switch on the front over to DirectInput. Since MOTA still uses DirectInput 8 instead of XInput if you have it set to XInput it won't work. Another is if you just installed the device make sure to reboot before configuring it. Sometimes it doesn't detect it right off, and you have to try again. HTH On 4/22/11, Mich mi...@eastlink.ca wrote: Hi tom and all. Re: [Audyssey] problum configuring the usb controler
Greetings Thom et al. I just reposted my overview of the F510, but it doesn't seem to be going through on my end. Is that true for the rest of you?
