[mezzanine-users] lack of /static/ in urls
I'm following this tutorial: bitofpixels.com/blog/mezzatheming-creating-mezzanine-themes-part-1-basehtml/ I've added the theme app, and made all the templates specific changes. Done! I run the app in browser, and all references to static files and media files are all lacking the ../static/... part. So for instance, Instead of: http://localhost:8000*/static/*img/home_blog/4.jpg/ I get http://localhost:8000/img/home_blog/4.jpg (without the static part) When I explicitly add the static part to any url, the item loads, meanwhile, for whatever reasons, Mezzanine doesn't add the /static/ part. Here's my settings file: http://pastebin.com/6ZWgggSC I don't know where to look anymore, as the settings file looks perfect, and the urls are okay, because if not, I wouldn't be able to have the urls with /static/ in them pointing to the resources. thanks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Mezzanine Users group. Flexible For loop
allow me to use wired.com to ask my question On wired.com, you see the news items displayed in cards, with varying sizes. In django, using the {% for %} will mean all the news item will have the same card design and size etc. Is there a way in Django to have the design intact, and just filling in the missing areas without having to use use {% for %} on one particular design card to display the list items? What I tried sometime ago was to use slices in templates, so I would slice each index of the returned list one by one, and place them in each card. Is there a better solution to this? So something like this, for instance: {% for i in object_list %} {{ i.title }} {{ i.description|truncatechars:"250" }} {{ i.title }} {{ i.description|truncatechars:"100" }} {% endfor %} in the above scenario, django will go through every tag in the {% for %} template tag, and will replace first item in the {% for %} block with first item in object_list Should there be left over {{ i.title }}'s in the for loop, it doesn't show those parts at all, and hides them. I don't know if the above concept makes sense, but I'm willing to explain further. Or if there's a workaround to doing something like the above without using slices, I'm all ears. thanks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Django users" group. [Wikimedia-GH] Meeting Announcement
Next week Thursday, myself and Felix Nartey has an appointment. Ever since Sandister and myself returned, we've not had he opportunity to meet all and hear the goodness of activities that went on and the experiences acquired. I've tried arranging such a meeting previously but it didn't work. This time round, Felix is organizing the meeting, so its not sure to fail. If you wanna join the meeting, Felix will communicate more details to us all, but its happening April 9th, that's tomorrow's week. Time and location, Felix will give the details. khophi.co ___ Wikimedia-GH mailing list Wikimedia-GH@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimedia-gh

Re: [Ubuntu-phone] Porting Guide
@fabio Having a porting community on gplus or other platforms is fine, but that wasn't my point. Having such communities will still involve asking someone for directions which i think the irc and forums are already doing My point is about a video tutorial. Even if an hour long, explaining, not the basics ( like download phablet or building an already existing device ) but this time, specifically about porting. So things like Making the device specific changes, this part to be precise: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/porting-new-device/#anchor3 The whole porting idea revolves about the device specific changes, so if that could be hammered away, ooh what a breeze it'll be. I understand porting involves try and error but its easier trying and 'erroring' legitimately, than doing so without any idea if on the right path or not. I'm specifically looking to port for the z2 xperia Sony. I've seen Ubuntu ported for the z1 or z, some 2 years ago. But the developer isnt anymore active, and he almost left behind nothing so substantial as in docs to guide in porting. Would have been really great if the 'porters' also do a bit of detailing sometimes. Thanks Daniel, for pointing out the forum and irc. Will check them out. [Ubuntu-phone] Porting Guide
I suppose this is the most up to date information on porting the Ubuntu Touch to other devices: https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/porting-new-device/ I might have gone through that several times. No light bulb lighting up yet, though I understand the beginning part, up to the point about device specific changes. From there, I get lost. If I may ask, is there a video tutorial of at least, a single device ported? The device can be the already officially supported devices, or a randomly picked device. The intent will just be o give a run down steps. I understand ubuntu developers are busy fixing bugs and stabilizing the touch. It'll also be great to offer even more springboard for many out there to get other devices ported. And going through the Ubuntu touch category on askubuntu, there's little talk about porting. Meanwhile, most porting talks one can find, the links lead back to the porting guide from Ubuntu. If porting is that easy, but perhaps I'm missing some steps, please direct me. By the way, I have cm running on phone, cm12 to be precise. I build it myself, kinda anytime I feel like. Rooting, unlocking, adb, fastboot are all piece of cake. The porting? That's not even a cake for me. [Ubuntu-phone] Downloading Source - actual true size?
For more than two weeks now, I'm gradually downloading the Ubuntu touch source with speeds of max of 500kb/s. Knowing the true actual and real size of the repo goes a long way to help me know what data bundle to choose, which saves the pocket as I get more discount per the higher the bundle. I know there are commits ingoing daily, but I dont think a gig worth of code is sent up per daily basis. Thus I'm sure the actual size of the repo as of this second can be known. A friend gave me a couple of tips a couple of minutes ago, as in using the the -c flag when using repo sync to fetch the current branch. He said he doesn't actually remember, but his repo is around 10gig+-. I'm doing the downloading directly using phablet trusting that it'll download the relevant stuffs, but is it going to fetch everything from the cyanogen mod repo irrespective of the branch? That means what I download, there are many duplicates or what? I'm just confused here because it keeps downloading and downloading. It gets to 99 sometimes, then other times it gets to 70 and downloads and downloads. I check my data and it keeps running and running, meanwhile I'm getting no where. What do I need to see or do to know that I'm done with the repo fetching? As per Alan's repo size, then it means I'm even 5 gig ahead of what the size is supposed to be. Thanks Gilfillan for the email templates. The word-for-word reason on the Patrick awauh article, perhaps I'm the only one who cant count at least even 10 sentences matching word for word between the Wikipedia article and the biography page. It's worth taking some time to understand licensing and copyright issues - it'll make future contributions much less painless. ian On 04/03/2015 21:56, Nkansah Rexford wrote: How Wikipedia rolls? After some brainstorming, Isla and I have decided that the 4th prize (originally jury prize) would be actually transformed in community prize. It will be a merge of jury and community selection :) The idea is to have the community vote on the last prize, on a selection of 20 best images, made by the jury (these exclude the top 3 winners). Accordingly, we have set up a page on Commons, where people can come and vote https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Africa_2014/ Community_Prize_Selection I would like to invite you to cast your vote. Tomorrow afternoon, an invitation to vote will be send on twitter and facebook. As most of you know, I have been invited to be on the programme committee for GLAM-WIKI 2015. The point being to get as many experienced Wikipedians who have worked with GLAMs or want to work with GLAMs to apply. The other point is to get Africa's important GLAMs to the conference to introduce them to the benefits of the Open Movement and working with the Wikipedia community in particular. Crossposted to commons-l. This is about making the Video transcoding/upload tool on labs a bit more visible for potential video contributors on commons. Thanks for crossposting. Good point. We should think about adding it onto [[Special:UploadWizard]] for example in the form of a third button below the Share images from Flickr. Although I foresee some demand for discussions about this, as the failed MP4 RfC may be relevant here. Daniel Exactly. A tool that useful shouldn't be hidden in the dust. Let the world use it! Of course, a bit of discussion is needed on including it on the upload page. Let's hear it when and where the discussion begins, and I'll add my text. Thanks for raising this up. Really in a good direction. ___ Wikimania-l mailing list Wikimania-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimania-l
Re: [Wikimania-l] Wikimania Documentary Done
I think Manuel knows _how_ to download youtube videos (youtube-dl for example). The point is that youtube does not _allow_ this. Check the youtube terms of use [1] section 5 paragraph B. @manuel, forgive me for taking your quest to download the videos literal. I get it now. YouTube doesn't permit that. Nkansah, you dismiss commons and its upload wizzard yet you seem not to have followed the advice to use the tool labs video converter/uploader. I've used it before, it is painless. I don't remember ever 'dismissing' the upload wizard in general. It simply _doesn't work_ when uploading videos. For pictures, from my uploads experience throughout last year, I'll give the upload wizard 10 out of 10. In that light I find the anti-commons soapboxing rather annoying. What is soapboxing? I haven't tried the uploaded convertor yet. I was more concerned about using a tool I _know_ it works, before later on, trying a tool I'm _told_ it works. I've tried enough dealing with Commons upload for some time, and I wished to save my remaining time on something that I'm sure it'll work 100.00% all the time. The video upload convert tool on wmflab, likely is exactly what I need(ed), however I wished it was easy to find. Just recently that it was added to the How to Upload to Wikimedia Commons section, whereas there were ffmpeg commands there already. Short story: I'll give the video upload tool a try soon. For now, I say my work is done, and unfortunately, Commons didn't make it. ___ Wikimania-l mailing list Wikimania-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimania-l

I couldn't upload even a single video of what I did to Wikimedia Commons. For whatever reasons, it doesn't WORK. uploading to YouTube happens at a breeze. Wikimedia Commons? its a no no. All the 6 edited videos on YouTube[1]. I've marked the ones that are CC-BY-SA license compliant. (those that aren't yet will be very soon). Subtitling will also be added soon. I won't be uploading the videos to Commons, therefore. If anyone here is interested to upload to Commons, you can download the videos from youtube in .webm formats, and upload to Commons. I would also help you with moving the files from Youtube to Commons but Youtube doesn't allow downloading them. I could hack it and grab the FLV stream and transcode that but I'd rather would like to get the files directly from you to minimize quality loss. Is there a way you can share the rendered files - in whatever original format they are? I can also offer a FTP upload. If you want to upload the original videos, and as such, want them downloaded, you can try the tool, clipconverter.cc I haven't noticed quality loss using the above tool. Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions. Will start with enabling oauth right away. I'm dead in php so I always look for python related hooks. But with the oauth module found, I think authentication won't be the 'crude' way I'm doing it now. Will reach out to 'real' users on VP soon too. Hi, there is the tool by Holger which does that using WebM - but it is hosted on WMF Labs. It uses OAuth for unified login and moving the files to Commons. Then, a more elaborate tool for * storing raw material at the Internet Archive * generating patent free WebM proxy clips for editing * rendering high-quality videos * moving these rendered videos to Commons directly is the Video Editing Server, developed by some Wikipedians and a MLT developer, hosted by the Internet Archive: https://wikimedia.meltvideo.com/ It also uses OAuth for login and moving files to Commons. The workflow with this: # upload all your raw files to the server for ## long-term storage ## to make them available to other editors ## to let the server use them in the rendering process # the server transcodes all files into WebM proxy clips # editors download the WebM proxy clips ## do the editing on your computer ## create an MLT project file (eg. using kdenlive or another MLT-based video editor) # upload the project file ## server will replace proxy clips with raw material ## server will render video project ## server will move generated file to Commons It comes with a search engine, meta data forms... it's still pretty new (development started in December '14) but can be used. We plan to add some more features like tagging using Wikidata QIDs (hence allowing multilingual / localised tagging / searching, adding more project file formats and renderer, making old project file revisions available for download, give it a nice vector-based theme, give it a better domain name and SSL certificate... Play with it and have fun! [Wikitech-l] Video Uploads to Commons
I couldn't find a tool to convert my videos from whatever format into .ogv outside my PC box before pushing to Commons. I guess there might exist something like that, but perhaps I can't find it. But I made one for myself. Maybe it might be useful to others too. I call it CommonsConvert. Upload any video format, enter username and password, and get the video converted into .ogv format plus pushed to Commons all in one shot. You upload the original video in whatever format, and get it on Commons in .ogv Some rough edges currently, such as can't/don't know/no available means to append license to uploaded video among other issues. Working on the ones I can asap. It uses mwclient module via Django based on Python. Django gives user info to Python, Python calls avconv in a subprocess, and the converted file is relayed to Commons via mwclient module via Media Wiki API. I think not everyone has means/technical know how/interest/time converting videos taken on their PC to an Ogg-Vorbis-whatever format before uploading to Commons. Doing the conversion on a server leaves room for user to focus on getting videos than processing them. I don't know if this is or will be of any interest that someone might wanna use, but I personally would enjoy having a server sitting somewhere convert my videos I want to save onto Commons, than using my local computer doing that boring task. In an email to this list a week or so ago, I 'ranted' about why commons wants a specific format (which if not for commons, I never come across that format anywhere), but has no provision for converting any videos thrown at it into that format of its choice. Well Tool can be found here: khophi.co http://khophi.co/commonsconvert/ http://khophi.co/commonsconvertcommonsconvert http://khophi.co/commonsconvert And this is sample video uploaded using the tool. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Testing_file_for_upload_last.ogv (will be deleted soon, likely) What I do not know or have not experimented yet is whether uploading using the api also has the 100mb upload restriction. Will appreciate feedback. ___ Wikitech-l mailing list Wikitech-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikitech-l

Re: [Bf-committers] Undo limits WAY to low.
I even suggested in a recent post to the mailing list asking, if instead of storing the undo in memory which gets lost when blender closes, the undos are stored on disk, thus allowing undoing even blender crashes and upon reopen, making undo can happen. This should be an option and not by default. In that case, the memory can be freed to attend to other stuff a should the limit be increased. Gigs of memory aren't as high as disks, thus saving the undo to disk will hardly be exhausting for storage. It looks like that message got lost. rexford | google.com/+Nkansahrexford On Jan 18, 2015 11:14 AM, Knapp magick.c...@gmail.com wrote: I have often found that having only 64 undos is really limiting, especially when working on lots of little mesh changes. When this was set I think my computers memory was like 2 GB but now it is sitting at 32 GB, a 16 times increase and of course every 14 months this doubles. I see no reason not to bump this up to at least 1024 as the max, if not more for future computers. Users still get to set the max themselves and we could leave the start up value low and let users increase it as they see fit. Also there is a max memory limit so this should prevent problems too. For example, you may ask each juror to pick 10 images, and then do a new selection round with only these. Or you may ask jurors to assign scores (1-10), and then simply sort the images by score and work with the best ones (or even pick winners immediately). Hello Asaf, Thanks for getting the zip file of all the files for me. It was really smaller than I expected. I have gone through the 800+ images and I have selected just a little over 100 images as candidate images to present to the jury.[1] I wish to hereby add a *disclaimer *(I've cc'ed wikimedia-gh list as well): *The list of selected images I present contains about 10 of images I took and uploaded. I included them, not because I took them, but because I think they are not bad images and as such are worth to be considered candidate images to present. The jury are free to exclude or include them upon reviewing the images.[2]* The compressed folder of images also contain a .txt file with links to the selected images original files on Commons. As it stands now, the selected images are ready. I hope we can get a jury to take it from here? And whats more, the list I present is just something *I* feel are good. The jury are free to also go through the 800+ images in case they wish to widen their taste. :p I think in general, images that came from Ghana aren't that deviating from this year's competition theme. Re: [Wikimedia-GH] Help with members for a Jury
[African Wikimedians] The abbr WLA
The abbreviation, WLA which we know to be wiki loves Africa happens to clash with another event known as Wiki loves Art. Since wiki loves art begun before wiki loves Africa, its natural for the Wiki loves team and or anyone referring to the event to use the abbreviation, WLAf for the Wiki Loves Africa whiles WLA remains for the Wiki Loves Art. I hope that wouldn't be any difficult for us to do. A friend drew my attention to that clash recently. Didn't notice that myself. [Wikimedia-GH] Fwd: Re: [Wikitech-l] Stance on Social Media

When we discussed the simple idea of a WikiShare extension to post articles on social media sites - it raised a hell storm that I still have war flashbacks from. I'm interested in this. Unlike most sites, we don't provide share buttons that encourage people to share our content. Sure people can still share it, but people can sometimes be lazy. A reddit this, tweet this button, share button might make all the difference. Are we missing opportunities by not encouraging people to interact with these large social networks e.g. helping them shout about new pages they have created, pages that they wish were better? I mean when I look back to article feedback I wonder why that wasn't implemented as a share button as it would have tapped into an already established market and hopefully brought attention to articles in need of improvement. What if #editwikipedia became a trending topic on Twitter due to us adding a tweet this page feature to edit mode. Wouldn't this be a good thing? Even at the cost of a share button that could be seen as supporting a non-open site. Why are we not exploring this kind of thing? In addition to this we don't play well with these sites. For example if you post a link to Wikipedia on any social media website the image that gets shared tends to be the mediawiki.org site (FYI [1]). It probably makes the article on social networks look less appealing and possibly less attention gets drawn to it. Why are we not celebrating the work of our editors more? Re: [Wiki Loves Monuments] Help with members for a Jury
Thanks for all the suggestions. Will work on cutting down the number of images before handing over to a jury. Lots of the images are kinda 'garbage', (i.e images with low resolution, some even mere 50kb etc.) In 2012, there was a tool used to sort and select images out of a category. I hope a tool of that sort still exists. rexford | google.com/+Nkansahrexford On Jan 8, 2015 5:20 AM, Karthik Nadar karthik...@wikimedia.in wrote: Hi Rexford, Please let me know if I can add some value to the jury team. Deadline? Yes if all complete and the best images ready before the 30 of this months. Selection process? Hmm, no idea this part. But the process revolves around getting best images submitted from ghana. Number of people in jury? A couple of persons have showed interest. But I'll be working on trimming down amount of images ( by removing the ones that can't be part of the best images ) before handing over to the jury we're yet to settle on. Any tools? Nope. No tools know yet. About shortlisting: It all depends on your tools. If juries have an effective rating tool, they can check all the images in a multi-staged process without the need of external aid (i.e. the organizers). In Colombia, for example, juries checked themselves all the participating images (about 2800 in WLM2014) without much trouble. In fact, the most difficult stages were, by far, the last ones, when they had to pick the top 10 among a bunch of good surviving images. In your specific case, in order to mantain the integrity of the contest, I would suggest you NOT to process the images before the juries do it, as you told us that several people in your team also participated in the competition. I think the processing will be specifically about removing images that don't even qualify being on commons. The criteria for uploads of images for the contest, some deviated totally. The contest was about food. I saw an image of a football team. Just bogus image, in relation to what the contest is about. Those are the kinda of garbage I'll try eliminating before handing over to the jury. Re: [Wikimedia-GH] Jury for WLA Ghana best images
I wouldn't say it wasn't well organized. It was nicely organized, at least, being the first time it happened. Of course, there will be improvements in subsequent events held, but it wasn't a failure this year. Trust me. The continental organization is planned accordingly and all is well. The jury we're currently looking for is to handle the images from Ghana. Some of us uploaded pictures thus aren't technically qualified to be part of a jury, simply because of Conflict of Interest. (put me on the jury, and I'll place 10 images I uploaded as best, from 1 to 10) :P So, if you're willing to be a part of the jury and didn't take part in the event (as in uploaded images) you can help out. [Wiki Loves Monuments] Help with members for a Jury
Hi, I'm rexford, from ghana. Late last year, WLA[1] was organized. ghana uploaded some 800 images[2]. We're looking for a jury to select the best 5 images. So we are currently waiting for the first list made by Wikimedians jury members (some already provided this info, not all of them). Hopefully this will be done by this week-end. I will keep you posted on this list !!! Second level of selection will then be made by the full jury, and I think it would be nice to give them about two weeks to decide. Does blender have a feature of committing the available undo per file to storage, thus upon reopening a blend file, one is able to do the number of undo steps in the file? Re: [African Wikimedians] Afripédia Douala
Hi Kasper, I don't think I've ever recommended to anyone to use the Wikimedia app. Its never worked for me, so no reasons why I should tell someone to. However, its still possible to use the in-browser upload wizard, which is much better to use this time. Its easier to use and works nicely. If you have lots of pictures too, you can use the uploader script called the Commonist. It has worked all the time for me. Since the commons server is on the other end, and network connection is between you and the server, I don't think the server will be able to boost speed if your uploading speed network connection is slow. Precisely, do you know the uplink and downlink speed of your connection at the hotel? Maybe. What it takes for that to be a yes is a group to take initiative to organize it, and to request the resources needed to run it (at the very least, prizes, but usually also logistics etc.), whether via a grant or through local sponsorships or crowdfunding. In the case of this competition this year, the organization was undertaken by the Africa Centre, which secured a WMF grant to fund it: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:PEG/Africa_Centre/Wiki_Loves_Africa_2014 (you might also be interested in the talk page) I was quite disappointed by the limited participation of Cameroom to the photo contest. Given the effort already been done in that country to train editors and to promote the project, I expected more input. While trying to upload some pictures to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Afripedia_Douala I'm starting to understand at least one part of the issue. Internet connections are really bad. Very high ping times, both at the French institute as well as in the hotel I'm staying in now, which I can't easily consider cheap (at least in terms of pricing). Is there a robust way to upload pictures to Commons over bad internet connections? Not that I know. It may be a good discussion to have on wikitech-l and/or commons-l. Re: [Wikimania-l] WM2014 video labels
Hi Nemo, The video is truly a 2k file size. I'm able to download the 2k version from YouTube. Any reason why you aren't using something like http://www.clipconverter.cc instead? I've never used the YouTube-dl but I think the restriction is coming from the strict, probably. Re: [African Wikimedians] Afripédia Douala
In the case of the Akan language, there're many speakers. And many schools teach the language, how to write and speak from primary schools to even sometimes senior high school. I, myself, can go back to writing articles onto the Akan Wikipedia. What I ask myself sometimes is that, Will I have to translate the english versions for whatever article I wanna write to Akan? How will I provide referencing for the articles I write in Akan? What is the standardized Akan language to use? I have lots of interest in improving the Akan Wikipedia, and I'm gonna fix it in my workflow and help improve it. Because, Why not? Thanks for suggestions. Interesting. I just found out that Akan has 11 million native speakers according to Wikipedia. So if the Akan Wikipedia becomes a success there is a much higher chance that your work will be read by people from your own country, right? Of course this is a chicken/egg problem. You need a limited number of articles to attract readers and e.g. get the press interested in the project. There is a strange discrepancy. Akan has 11 million of speakers. To be a success, the work should have readers. Being speakers doesn't mean being readers ane lesser being writers. It's important. regards -- Ilario Valdelli Wikimedia CH Verein zur Förderung Freien Wissens Association pour l'avancement des connaissances libre Associazione per il sostegno alla conoscenza libera Switzerland - 8008 Zürich Tel: +41764821371 http://www.wikimedia.ch ___ African-Wikimedians mailing list African-Wikimedians@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedians -- +Rexford http://google.com/+Nkansahrexford | Africa Center http://africacenter.net | WiR https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedian_in_Residence | WikiAfrica http://wikiafrica.net | User:Nkansahrexford http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nkansahrexford ___ African-Wikimedians mailing list African-Wikimedians@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedians
Re: [Wikimediaindia-l] Scanner machine
Hi Tito, After reading what you intend to do with the scanner, I think you can do a pretty job scanning documents using a phone camera with good quality instead. Besides, it won't be difficult to carry around - it'll just be in your pocket I, for instance, scan documents using my phone, which fortunately, has 20 megapixel. I use the software called Camscanner[1] which works well on Android. It allows converting your scanning into PDF and other formats for safe keeping. Of course you don't need a 20 megapixel camera to scan documents. Somewhere 8 to 12 megapixel is enough to get HD quality of documents, if that's what you're aiming for. Though not scanning,[2] I could get some nice pictures with just with my phone, just to show that, with careful orientation, you can scan, even better documents with your phone [1] https://www.camscanner.com/ [2] https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Iziko_sang_Malangatana_Valante_Ngwenya.jpg Just my suggestion. rex On Wednesday, November 26, 2014, Ravishankar Ayyakkannu ravidre...@wikimedia.in wrote: Hi Vishnu, Shyamal Thanks for sharing suggestions.
